Surfer - Download
Added 2021-09-04 23:59:49 +0000 UTCGrowing up 15 minutes from the beach and spending an enormous percentage of my free time on the sand and in the water, surfers have always had a special place in my heart. Long before I realised I was gay I would look at those guys with sun-bleached long hair and a really chilled attitude in wonder. They were so different from my "keep your hair need and dress nice" upbringing. It also never hurt that their board shorts always seemed to reveal just a little bit of their butts as they walked up the beach.
So when I started talking to Sam on Instagram, even though he doesn't surf, he represents those guys to me. With the lean frame that a lot of surfers have, the long hair and some other impressive assets Sam was very easy to photograph. It was an overcast day but like me, surfers always seem to be happy looking out over the powerful ocean, not always needing to be in it. My idea for this shoot was to have Sam looking contemplative and just admiring the ocean.
