Not entirely to plan
Added 2020-09-22 07:15:45 +0000 UTCIt is something that frustrates me about myself that I don't often test out the more elaborate concepts I have for photo shoots. This shoot with my model Ben was one of those instances where I should have had contingencies in place but there weren't really any options.
When I met Ben to talk about doing a shoot, he had grown his hair since the last photos I'd seen, to just past his shoulders. He was also a lot bigger than I'd anticipated in terms of his height and athleticism. None of these things were a problem. Because he already had long hair we came up with the idea to exaggerate that wildly and do a bit of a Rapunzel situation.
I jumped online and after much fruitless searching, found a really long wig that a hairdresser friend said she could turn it into hair extensions. This is where it went a bit off course. It was a cheap wig (my budget isn't the same as Beyonce's) and when it was all clipped in, it didn't move well. The super long hair blowing in the wind idea went straight out the window but we made the most of the incredibly long hair anyway.
Ben is one of those great guys that can pull off masculine or feminine and isn't worried about where he is on that scale at any point. So posing with long hair a la Birth of Venus was not a problem and he looked spectacular doing it.
