Added 2020-08-29 22:18:33 +0000 UTCTake one beautiful dancer, add some coloured powder and some oil. Then add a soft directional light and let him move. It’s all I can do to keep up and capture the beautiful poses that reveal themselves.
Jacopo could have stood perfectly still and his big, soulful eyes and angular features would have done a beautiful job, but he was magic in motion and I was just along for the ride. Jacopo is a contracted dancer with one of the biggest dance companies in Australia and watching him control his body so beautifully was so beautiful.
Working with dancers is a true collaboration. Since I have no dance background it's only if I see a pose or a position that I think is particularly amazing and I may not have captured it that I'll ask him to stop or to repeat the move. Letting someone like Jacopo just play and for me to let that inspire me and see where it leads us both is the best approach.
