Jorge is back in this behind-the-scenes look at the Living Statue download.
This shoot was a very simple set up. At the time I had access to a gorgeous, large studio where I was working and it also had some incredible equipment. So to make Jorge look like a statue come to life, we covered him in liquid clay that dries with a nice matt finish and crumbles to show the man beneath the clay. The lighting setup was just one very large umbrella light on the right hand side and some reflector boards on the left side to make sure we didn't lose out on the detail of Jorge's incredible body.
While Jorge is not a dancer, we didn't need a lot of dynamic movement or posing for this shoot. It wouldn't make sense for a statue to be leaping around like a ballet dancer would it?
Would I do anything differently? I might consider the blue paint and how to apply it a bit more carefully but for me there is a beauty in the unpredictable when you are creating art.
It's how you incorporate things that are unexpected into the process that really pushes you creatively.
