Xinyan Choco Love (Process Blog)

Welcome to the Xinyan Choco Love Process Blog Post!

This time around, I wanted to do a Valentine's / White Day Fan Art for Xinyan and Aether because I ship both of them very hard. Like, a lot.

I wanted to make a First-Person View story out of it and have Xinyan sort of mount on top of Aether to feed (Or kiss) him some chocolate.

Writing this kind of story was a bit embarrassing, but I wanted to try and reflect the characters (somewhat) to their in-game portrayals.

Setting would take place in an ambiguous room, typically Xinyan's room in the Serenitea Pot and it would face a ceiling to where the light source would be.

Xinyan would take off the top portion of her clothing to her undergarments, which was a bit difficult since there is not much official reference to how her clothes are connected underneath her coat.

It's mostly just one image with a few variations to the face and the addition of Aether's arm as most of the images' differences come from the text of each page.

Honestly, it was quite embarrassing to write, but I wanted to try and make it seem somewhat believeable, with the pretext that both are actually an item before the events of Valentine's Day (In-Universe).

After that whole ordeal would be the resolution that both are still dating and I would introduce an image of a White Day Version, albeit more tame and in Chibi form.

With the way these images are formated, I could honestly make NSFW art of the two together to lead to the "Nightly Events" that Xinyan in this storyline wanted to have.

So that's pretty much it. Now I'll just go over each image over the course of this process. This only depecits the first page of the short comic.

Base Sketch:

Initial Sketch. The real challenge was deciding how to angle the arms and how stretched the would be as the enter the sides of the image.

Rough Sketch:

Rough Sketch of the first page. Wanted to try and design her undergarments here.

Since her tank top dress does not envelope her back, I tried to make it should like it was wrapping around her shoulders and the white undergarments would wrap in the same area while also wrapping around Xinyan's neck.

Lineart:

Finished lineart product. Forgot to add the earing on her left ear, so I added in the lineart phase. Adjusting the lines for the white undergarments around the neck area were a bit of a challenge, but it would somewhat curve upwards to give the illusion that it is wrapping around her neck.

Flat Colors:

Adding color to match a somewhat darker palette as the lightsource will be behind her.

Shading 1:

Simple shading with her head, neck, and stomach area being mostly covered in shadow. Wanted to give the impression that she's leaning over Aether while leaving the lighting to Xinyan's face, arm, and chest areas.

Shading 2:

Added blush and secondary shading. Not much to deter to the artwork, but morse just to add onto areas to emphasize depth.

Highlights:

Adding in highlights to give a bit of shine to the image while adhereing to an invisible light source behind Xinyan. Behing trying a new hair highlight technique and honestly I'm quite satisfied with it. However, I still need to work with how I wanted to color hair in a more cell-shaded style. Something to think about in future artworks.

Lighting (Environmental Lighting):

Added the background and darker colored tones to the image to give contrast between Xinyan and the background.

Final / Finishing Touches:

Added the glow around Xinyan's body as well as giving light in the background to give that depth within the image.
