Aww, I'm glad you like it! I don't want to overanalyze or imply any sort of agenda or anything. I just think it's cool how you've naturally touched on these subjects, even while the characters are just being themselves. It's very sweet! <3

But yes, I do agree with the whole misinterpretation of platonic kindness or well sometimes it's unsure whether is it platonic or something more LOL. Yeah! Those issues are not something I want to put too much emphasis on, but it's definitely important to point out in a story like this. Thank you thank you! I'm glad you're really digging it c: I won't say too much because I want you to enjoy the rest of the story as it goes!

2021-04-27 20:41:28 +0000 UTCFourth panel: The moment Suyin realizes she may actually have a chance. It's a beautiful thing, and her smile on the next page is so sweet. We can joke about "Useless Lesbians" and being oblivious to obvious interest, but the fear of misinterpreting otherwise platonic kindness and driving off someone we've grown attached to is strong. We, the audience, know what's going on, but Suyin doesn't know she's in a queer romance story. And I think this is the first time they've discussed LGBTQ+ issues, so it's not crazy for Suyin to have assumed Xiulan is Straight Until Proven Otherwise and that her crush was doomed from the start. Also, I really love Xiulan's subtle blush throughout here. The focus is on Suyin's emotions because they're strong and she doesn't hide them well, but it's clear this conversation means just as much to Xiulan. Finding out Suyin is aware of her own orientation is important - while Suyin's attraction toward her is obvious, it could be that Suyin was closeted or in denial about liking women. I'm excited to see where things go from here! <3
