Update + Announcement :)

Hey y'all, Elessar here! Sorry, I usually like to leave more personalized updates on patreon, but I've been busy today so I'm just copying over what I'm posting on RR. That aside, I’ve got some updates as far as how System Reset’s return is coming along!

I’ll give the TLDR at the top for anyone who doesn’t need the drivel: SR will be re-launching on RR on April 15th - definitively. Everything is in place now, I just have to take my final steps.

Apologies for the delay. As some of you might notice, I said I’d continue serialization in March, and March is now close to being over. This has been mildly distressing for me, since I know many of you have been looking forward to the story’s return :(

Fortunately, it’s not all glum news! Although my schedule has largely been derailed, the reasons why are things I generally view as positives :)

To start, there just ended up being way more edits I wanted to make to the earlier chapters than I had anticipated. I’ll stress again that if you’re feeling antsy to re-read SR in anticipation of newer chapters, it may pay off to wait a little longer for that. It’s still the same story, and there aren’t many concrete retcons (beyond some system changes), but I’ve gone back and improved pacing, clarity, voice, and improved some of my character work that I think will better support future developments in the story. I’ll still be detailing all these changes for those that just want to continue the story alongside my announcement post on the 15th though, and I don’t believe there are any major changes that will ruin the experience.

The second reason this is coming late, and the primary reason really, is that I discovered that I’m a bit of a discovery writer, rather than a pure outliner. As I mentioned in my last update, I really wanted book 1 to be finished before I started serializing again and at that point, I believed it was pretty close to finishing.

It wasn’t -_-

Like not at all. I was right at the finish line when my keyboard decided to take a sudden detour! Now, the book is like 45k words longer than I expected it to be, and it ended up being a monster at about 270k words. Now the plus side to this is I’ll have a greater backlog, more time to refine week to week, and I won’t be burning out again. But it has kind of made things a pain to schedule.

On the other hand, it’s totally GOATED. If you’ll allow me to be indulgent for a second, Krazekode and I absolutely cooked this section of the story. And the edits. System Reset will go down as the best LitRPG in history, undoubtedly.

Well, I’m fairly certain it’ll be enjoyed at the least. Sorry, I realise this sounds a bit like I’m talking up my luxurious feast in front of folks who’ve been starving for a year. I’m very much looking forward to watching you guys enjoy the story too. Writing in an echo chamber isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and I’ve been dying for feedback.

In any case, April 15th, that’s the return date. I’ve been informed that hiatusing for almost a year can ruin momentum a bit (who would’ve thunk) so I’ll be re-launching under a new fiction page. I’ll still be posting an announcement here, so keep an eye out for that. All I’ve got to do now is finish writing the last two chapters, and make some final edits to the ones I’ve written. Then SR book 1 will be complete!
