Just in case you ever decide to watch the sequels to Swan Princess I would recommend stopping after the third one. After the third one the nice hand drawn animation gets replaced by really bad 3d animation and they are more spin off movies that were definitely focused for a much younger audience. So I would just stick with watching the original trilogy and ignore anything after the third one.

As an adult, I realize that Derek never says he enjoys Odette’s intelligence or bravery. She settles for him, because she can’t help but think that an arrogant prince she’s attracted to would be better than the creepy, old man holding her captive so that he can eventually take her home from her and destroy it… Also, why is Derek’s mother sending out the invitations a day prior to the event, given they live in an age of carriage and horses? Some of those princesses no doubt lived at least one week drive’s away.

I used to be obsessed with this movie as a kid and it still holds up to me to this day, even though it's not my favorite movie ever. it just has this charm about it, especially the side characters like Speed. I do also understand your confusion about the time jumps, etc... however I do think it's implied that time has passed for Odette at the same time as Derek when he's practicing his archery so she would have already met Speed and Jean-Bob. they writers might have chosen to cut that scene of them meeting for time and trusted the audience to understand that time had passed, especially considering that the movie is already close to 90 minutes (which is on the longer side for a kids' film). anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the story and thanks for giving a chance to one of my childhood favorites ❤️
