2022-01-17 03:09:29 +0000 UTCIt’s not always about age. There are some valid reasons for not liking Singing in the rain. It's very technically impressive and of course filled with great performances but I prefer my musical numbers to be a bit more plot relevant. Singin in the Rain has a story and then stops for a musical number, rather than the musical number moving the plot forward. I do agree that not enough people give older movies a chance but sometimes it really is hard for anyone born at a certain time to enjoy something that they lack the context to appreciate. It is in many ways a great send off to the musical movie of old, and because I grew up with the very specific type of movie musical Singing is paying homage to, I understand that context and I can appreciate it, but not everyone can be expected to understand that, especially younger people. Honestly depending on the mood I’m in I find singing in the rain to be irritating at points. Wonderful dancing but something about it is just off. The smiles are too wide, and everyone feels like they're just a little mad at each other and maybe even in pain (which given the behind the scenes stuff I know is probably true.) When I was a kid my dad always said that he thought Singin’ was a bit hoaky and he vastly preferred An American in Paris. At the time I thought Singin’ was a laugh riot and I liked it better. Now as I get older I find I’m agreeing with my dad more and more.

2022-01-16 03:25:13 +0000 UTCEric, I didnt say it was a play first. I said it was a fantastic stage show. I prefer it on stage to on screen. Its a unique live experience. Also, how does knowing that the movie plot relies on cgi = "amazed movies create unreal things"? You asked for justification for the mask being voted for, but it wasn't good enough because "sharknado" exists. That would be like me saying,"Hey, eric, you like musical movies? I've got a 2019 fever dream about felines to sell you." You didn't want justification. You wanted to vent. Come on, mate. Just relax and enjoy the patreon. You are not going to get your way all the time and you can't control the outcomes of votes. Singin in the rain could very well still win this poll, or win the next one. Chin up.

2022-01-07 23:02:41 +0000 UTCUh, Singin' was never (originally) a play, at least not until Broadway cashed in on it later during Ted Turner's merch-pimping of it in the 80's. Singin' came from MGM's habit of putting darn good original musicals together from scratch on the studio backlot, because that what movies ALSO did in its day...And they just happened to have the talent lying around to do it with. If you're that amazed that movies can create unreal things with CGI, I have a few Sharknados to sell you.

2022-01-07 21:48:04 +0000 UTCMy favourite movie is Harvey, a black and white movie from 1950. And i like the Mask WAY better than singin in the rain. Singin is a fantastic stage show, seen it a few times. Excellent and fun. But the Mask was the best vehicle in the 90s for jim carreys unique brand of physical humour and rubber face. And it uses movie magic to create special effects, the entire plot relies on the movie being a movie. Its the closest you will ever get to a real live cartoon. Singin' is a great PLAY. The mask is a great MOVIE. Why do you care about something from the 90s or after winning tho? Good movies can exist in any time. And yes, Heidi misunderstood what movie you were complaining about, but her point still stands about mocking things that others love. "Embarrass yourself"? Not embarrassed to be a fan of the Mask. Sorry to disappoint you!

2022-01-07 20:44:53 +0000 UTCHeidi...Wait, did you think I was complaining about Singin'? Rather than it being outvoted by a movie where Jim Carrey sings Desi Arnaz songs, just because more Millennial kids are terrified of movies made before the ancient 90's that they weren't alive to have seen on DVD? Give Singin' a chance, people. We promise the rest of us won't be TOO smug when you end up hooked on it within the first fifteen minutes.

2022-01-07 01:39:26 +0000 UTCExactly just because you didn't like some movie that's getting voted on doesn't mean other people feel the same way. We all have our opinions and we all have different favorite movies.

2022-01-07 00:18:45 +0000 UTCSingin' in the Rain is a phenomenal classic, and it's my all time favorite musical. I love Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. I understand that some people don't like musicals or the classics, which Singin' in the Rain most definitely is. Yet many people do love them. So, please do not mock or tear down a movie I love such as you have. There are movies on this list I don't like myself, but I don't tear them down, because there are people who might love them.

2022-01-06 23:24:19 +0000 UTCPeople…The Mask is winning. Singin’ in the @#$&in RAIN, and The Mask is WINNING. Explain. 😡 C’mon, publicly embarrass yourselves, kids, let’s hear those justifications.

2022-01-04 16:51:42 +0000 UTCPoor My girl. Lol. It just can’t seem to win a poll. 😢

2022-01-04 04:09:37 +0000 UTCI've grown up loving musicals, and Singin' in the Rain is absolutely my favorite out of them all. I am so happy to hear that there are others like you who love this musical such as I do!! :) Sincerely, Heidi

2022-01-03 07:31:45 +0000 UTCSo glad that there are so many of you that want to choose Singing in the Rain for him as a backup in case it doesn't win the poll. I had it on my list of movies to choose for him too. It was voted by the American Film lnstitute as the greatest musical of all time, and although there might be a few musicals that I personally enjoy more, I can also completely understand and agree that it deserves that ranking.

2022-01-03 07:13:33 +0000 UTCHaha singing in the rain is also on my list of movies for Nick to watch. I’m also a top tier person so I may ask Nick if he can watch it on my birthday next month :)

2022-01-03 05:05:14 +0000 UTCDo not--repeat, do NOT--watch the '17 version of Murder on the Orient Express if you have never seen the iconically gorgeous and all-star 1974 version. (The one that has Sean Connery in it.) If you have only one chance to encounter the story for the first time, do it right. That said, however, long before YouTube reactions existed, it was common knowledge that if you want to get someone hooked on old films for life, show them Singin' in the Rain first. (And that means YOU, whichever one or two people started voting The Mask ahead...)

2022-01-03 05:04:39 +0000 UTCSingin' in the Rain!! :)
Heidi Elizabeth Marcum
2022-01-03 04:15:32 +0000 UTCOf all of the movies on this list, I'm pretty sure Singing in the Rain and The Mask are the ones that you would enjoy the most. So for your sake I hope one of those wins 😊

2022-01-03 04:11:47 +0000 UTCIf Singin' in the Rain and Les Miserables don't win, I will absolutely be requesting them for my monthly tier request at some point in the future!! Especially Singin' in the Rain. Singin' in the Rain gets my vote!! :) Heidi
