So once again, another year is coming to close in our third year working on our goal to preserve as much anime on film as we can. Firstly, I would like to thank each and everyone of you Patrons for supporting us along the way, whether you’re just chipping to say thanks, or you enjoy the premium scan every month. Secondly, I would like to apologize about the lack of updates on Patreon itself. Our team has been extremely busy the past year with their real lives, and not much extra time is left over for us to focus in on anything huge besides the regular uploads we’ve been doing. As a result, Patreon posts have been sparse and it’s been weighing on my mind a little bit, so I wanted to give you guys a big end of the year update with what’s on the horizon, and what you can look forward to in the near future.
First and foremost, we have a few uploads going up this month. These will both be made available early to patrons in the $10 tier or up before they go live for the public later in December. However, I can tell you here what these uploads will be so you can look forward to them.
First is an unknown pilot film to an anime adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. This pilot did not get a follow up series or film so it is unclear who made it, and what purpose it was made for. It is also not completed, as the sound mix has not been finished, and most of the voiceover has not been recorded. We found this print earlier this year and got to scan it a few months ago but we found that it was very faded and had a lot of damage that needed to be fixed. We took the liberty of addressing these issues and now have come up with a satisfactory result that we think we can be proud of, and that all of you can enjoy. However, keep in mind that there exist no production materials for this short, so it is unclear what exactly the colors should have been or how it should have looked. We went with an approach that we feel might be the closest to what was intended, but we cannot be totally sure. In any case, this is real lost media and we don’t even know where it came from or what purpose it was made for, so I think it will be an interesting upload for everybody to see. This will be made available for $10 patrons and up effective immediately when this post goes up and it will be uploaded to the general public sometime next week.
Secondly, we will finally be putting up a color graded and raw scan of the Captain N episode 7 film negatives that we found earlier this year. This took very long for us to complete also, with small adjustments being made for months before we felt it was ready to go. We apologize for anyone who is looking forward to this earlier, but we finally got to a point to to where we feel it is ready to be shown to the world. You will be able to see the color graded version on YouTube as well as the raw scan version on the Internet Archive for Christmas. However, the color graded version will be will be available to watch for $10 Patrons starting next week. Please keep in mind that this is not a full episode that we are working with, but rather a random selection of cuts animated by the Japanese studio who worked on this episode. We were able to sync up some audio from the specific episode it’s from, but we could not locate a few shots, so there is no audio for them. We hope that through understanding this you’ll be able to enjoy what we were able to come up with, and again, I apologize for the long wait for this one. We wanted to make sure it looked great.
Now, our second order of business is to talk about the premium scans for this month. I want to apologize for being 10 days late on this, as our real lives and work have been just so busy lately and I’ve just gotten the chance to get all this sorted today. As you know, this is a season of giving and I would like to give back to our whole community by offering not just one, but two premium scans for the month. Also, they will not just be given to the normal $15 patrons, but rather any and all paying members regardless of tier. These are the scans for the opening themes of Baxingar and Sasuraiger, two videos that we uploaded recently on our channel. We hope that everyone can enjoy these, as both of these series are unfortunately never able to be remastered in any official capacity. Also, both of these episodes that these openings came from are available as downloads courtesy of LonelyChaser Fansubs, if you weren't aware. Please check them out if you haven't already.
As for the next year, we have been able to secure and locate many interesting materials and many interesting things, anime, and not, but we don’t have a set schedule for anything just yet. On the Domesday side of things, we have a few more things going up in collaboration with LonelyChaser soon, as well as some other things that were doing on our own, but more info on that is to come later. as for any premium restorations going on, we barely have time to dedicate to stuff like that, but we were trying to get the ball rolling on a specific project that we would like to eventually release, but at this time it has simply not advanced enough to talk about it. Things are in the works, it’s just that things are very slow right now for us. I hope you can understand where we’re coming from.
I think that’s everything that I wanted to talk about. As always if you want to reach out our DM’s are open. If you have any questions or concerns we are always willing to hear you out. Also, if you have any comments or suggestions on how we can make our service better for you as a Patron, please let us know. Thank you all again for a great year, and let's hope to continue into 2024 with success!
