March Updates

Hey everyone!

So very sorry for the lack of updates this month... We have all been very busy with our jobs and lives, and I personally am currently dealing with a foot injury on top of it, but... rest assured we have not forgotten you all and have a few things in store!

Firstly, you may have seen a Tweet from us earlier this week teasing something that we find is a pretty damn big deal, and that we have never spoken out about before. That is, that yes: we are restoring and color correcting the 4K scan of Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! We haven't really said anything about it, but our pal Carnivol, who owns the 16mm print, has allowed us to use his raw scan (which he posted on YouTube a few months ago), to create the best quality restoration we could... and boy, does it look beautiful, and blow every other source of the film out of the water. We are still working on it, but we do have a gif to show you at least... ;) The release will not just contain the beautiful high definition picture, but also a brand new surround sound (Dolby Stereo) capture from the original VHS release, as well as, hopefully, a better subtitle translation than what currently exists! We want this to be the definitive, ultimate release of the film, so that no one ever has to go through all these lengths again! As far as distribution goes, we will premiere the film on YouTube when it's ready, and at the same time offer downloadable versions in both 4K and 1080p for those who prefer them. Carnivol said he would like to make the raw scans available as well, but we are not sure how that will happen just yet. The project is still far from complete, but it is getting closer, and you guys are the very first to know about it! Sorry for it being so on the down low, but it is a very very high profile project, and we wanted to avoid any speculation and discussion on the matter... we've sure learned our lesson after Daicon III! (Maybe one of these days we'll finish that and leak... uh, I mean, never mind.)

In other news, coming up from us are a couple of neat things for you guys. In the next few days we will be uploading something that we teased on Twitter a long while ago, a 16mm scan of Doraemon Traffic Safety, one of many many educational PSAs that were shown to schoolchildren in class. This one is based on the anime from 1979, but to my knowledge outside of some clips, this special is probably lost media in its own right. We actually have two prints of it, believe it or not, and the one we scanned belongs to @nappasan, who continues to be a gracious help on many of our projects and endeavors. The print itself is super beat up and dirty, but we decided just to get it out there for people to see rather than taking the time to painstakingly restore it, it'd take far too long... and hey, I know some people dig all the film imperfections! We did color correct it though so there's that, though the result is better than the Tweet I linked to above. So, look out for that coming soon, I am literally rendering it out right now as I type! This one won't go on YouTube, since I've heard Fujiko Pro is super uptight about copyright and will strike anything Doraemon-related, so we'll be uploading the scan on archive.org instead. You guys will be the first to know when it goes up, followed by Twitter after.

We will also be uploading something to our YouTube soon, which Digital Femboys will be able to see before anyone else, but as for what is up in the air at the moment. Would you guys want to see an anime trailer or something? Let me know.

Speaking of the Patreon community, I'll up another post soon to vote on the next $15 tier reward. It seems you guys really like anime OPs/EDs, so maybe I won't consider making it an option this time (mwahahaha), let's try and see if something else will win! It actually seemed to be pretty even with the trailer and, even western content got some love. I'll see what can more evenly compete for this next one hahaha.

What else is there? Oh, yeah. There's not much of an update at all on this, but we are more than certain that Captain Tsubasa print we have is indeed lost media. Unfortunately have not had the time to do anything with it, but it's something I would actually like to restore. I don't know when that'll happen, but hopefully sooner than later. It's gonna need a lot of work.

I guess that's everything for now? As always, I want to thank you all for sticking through with us even during this dry spell of a month. Hopefully the upcoming content, poll, and rewards will make up for it. I and the rest of the team really really appreciate your support and I just want you all to know that we couldn't do this without you.

Well, till next month I guess! Look out for that poll and upcoming content coming in the next few days!
