As you might have seen on Twitter thanks to our buddy Tanks (https://twitter.com/tanks404/status/1481086174764621828?s=20), we were able to scan a very cool little novelty in the form of a Super 8mm print of Lupin the Third's first cinematic outing, Mystery of Mamo.
This print runs about 8 minutes featuring various scenes from the movie, and was sold to Japanese consumers for their home Super 8 projectors, which is an odd and rare sight for anime. Because of that we wanted to check this out and see how it looked, and we feel that for Super 8, it surprisingly holds up well. Nowhere near as good as most other releases of the film you can see, but it's a cool little novelty.
Super 8 prints of movies were a little more common back in those days, but they would never put the whole film on a roll, but rather select scenes much like this one. Disney did it a lot with their home movies line before they moved to VHS, for example.
We will most likely be posting this one to the public in cropped form, but who knows... Maybe you Patrons will be seeing more than just these exclusive screenshots soon enough...
