I wonder if he would have cared at all about increasing regulations on amusement parks if his own child wasn't killed. How anyone in their right mind honestly believes that self-regulation does anything is beyond me. Engineering, environmental, consumer goods, and food production regulations have existed since before the middle ages, because governments understood that you cannot trust people, or the market for that matter, to regulate themselves.

2022-04-23 23:38:01 +0000 UTCJust saw an article last night talking about the prelude, new info came out and it was discovered that a worker adjusted the safety harness past the allowed standards, in order to cater to larger passengers. I think it was done to 2 seats, one being the kids. The rest hadn’t been adjusted, so not only was he too big for the ride, someone manually adjusted the seat restraints to be DOUBLE the width, which couldve opened even more with the added weight, making an even bigger gap which he slipped through. fucking tragic.

But he had to sue in Texas because he had voted for a law that passed in Kansas severely limiting damage claims against companies. Just another great example of the “justice for me, but not for thee” mindset of politicians. Maybe for an update podcast in the future.

The juxtaposition of the first case (and so recent!) with the second really stood out; if a lawmaker can't get them to be accountable under the law what chance do the rest of us have? Just another body broken under the no-fault wheel of capitalism.
