Status Update - August 2021
Added 2021-09-01 10:23:19 +0000 UTCHello! As promised, this month's billing has been paused to make up for the last month where I did not pause in time. This month saw two new releases and many more interesting things that didn't yet get finalized.
DuckStation
- Fix A0, A1, A2, A3 cheats - a fix for a small bug I spotted while working on cheats in DuckStation. If you plan to use my upcoming cheats for PS1 games, please update as I am using these codes!
PCSX2
- KeyboardQueue: Remove a Windows-specific critsec - a nitpick PR to PCSX2, removing some unused code. Nothing relevant, but listing for completeness =)
Gran Turismo/Gran Turismo 2
- 60 FPS Codes Get Rid of Rear-View Mirror in Bumper Cam View - my 60FPS codes for Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2 always disabled one of the optimizations (removing tire smoke), but I overlooked another optimization (removing the rear view mirror). With this small update, the mirror is back. Please note that I'll be updating this cheat again this month.
Crazy Taxi
In August, I've released two mods for Crazy Taxi:
- Dreamcast Restoration 2.0 - a mod restoring licensed brands from the original ports of the game
- SilentPatch - fixing a few issues I encountered in the game, most notably issues with broken analog controls and a crash when using DirectInput wheels.
For more information, I published a writeup earlier this month both here and on my blog:
https://cookieplmonster.github.io/2021/08/08/crazy-taxi-dreamcast-restoration-silentpatch/
Both mods were received well and gone relatively viral, so I'm glad more people are aware of them and get to enjoy the game in this new way :)
What's next?
For a few weeks now I've been working on updating my Gran Turismo 2 cheats. Initially, I wanted to only recreate the widescreen fix to address a few issues the current version has. Naturally, that didn't work out and as of the time of writing this post, I have at least 4 cheats I plan to release early this month!
Aside from a new widescreen fix, I also have e.g. a code to toggle the UI in the race, unlock additional cameras, and force high detail vehicles for AI opponents - making the game look a lot better than stock, but also using more memory in the process.
Therefore, I can only guarantee these upcoming cheats will work fine in DuckStation, since Duck's cheat system is the most extensive (and patching Gran Turismo 2 safely requires more effort than the usual cheats) and since DuckStation is one of the only (or the only?) emulators to allow emulating a PS1 console with 8MB RAM, like on dev units.

Keep your eyes out for updates, as those should arrive soon!
