All these years later, that opening sound bite is still triggering. Very nicely done.

I LOVE the way the preludes are done. It's like getting two episodes in one.

I had no idea where this was going at the beginning of the episode & then I had to full on pause to....:::whew. That was a fucking moment - I’ll be reliving for awhile again. That recording could have came from my fucking apartment. I can only imagine that if I was actually there, the rest of my life would be an exercise of putting 1 foot in front of the other & that’s fucking IT. The tragic & vile human trash who pretended to be there for whogivesashitwhat reason, well.... I don’t know. I think they all need HELP & to be exposed for who they are whatever the ultimate price they pay. I remember this gal - but I did not know true the story, so thank you for setting my record straight.

Your level of sarcasm really touches my soul, I love it!!!

He gave a warning before the clip from the fundraiser episode so I don't think a heads up is an unreasonable request.

Jess Mack

I feel the clips he uses are extremely important to the story. If you’re listening to this podcast it is inherently graphic.

Laura S

Please don’t include clips like that without a warning.

Shannon Connell

Thank you!

These stories left me in tears with a touch of anger. So disheartening to know how carelessly people sow trauma in order to meet their own needs.

Gretchen Hinkle

The intro recording of the phone call gave me full body chills 😨 RIP to all we lost that day

Tiare Hudson

Dope episode. What a crazy bitch

Kaholokai Colburn

Man this was a good episode, my only complaint is that it ended so abruptly and I didn’t feel like I had closure.

Truly a brilliant piece of work. Weaving the three stories together in a way such that each instance of fraud ramped up was compelling. And I can't get over how perfectly haunting the music was; the sitcom/laugh track analogy is also genius. Well done, sir.

It's so strange to hear one of these stories and find that it isn't based around the financial motive. We're just primed to always expect that, at the bottom of everything, the motivation is material, so to have one of these cases where the person not only didn't scam for money but actually invested into the scam, all for the sake of the illusion itself, just feels utterly foreign.

Tania Head reminds me of my mother, who had her own unbelievable story where she was the granddaughter of a famous historical person (in my country) who could not have had grandchildren but which she persisted in telling people. I have no idea if she still persists in this nonsense, and I have no desire to know. I always thought it was because my mother just wanted to be special, and important, without having to do any work to be special or important. She got nothing financially from it (as far as I know). It's a weird sort of narcissism. Ironically, I'm probably a person who doesn't know when they should highlight their achievements.
