I finished the blocking for a wendigo bit a lil while ago :D. The model on the left is the Krampus model from one of the smissmas maps from last year. I just had to remove some accessories and smush their face to fit into the skull hat I put on them. It makes them look like a goat but ill save those clips for when the whole project is done. To make the background scene I got a smoke blackscreen and used some shader nodes to make it transparent and then layered and changed the speed of each layer to get a parallax type effect going. For the lighting, I really wanted a dark and foreboding feeling but still bright enough to make out facial expressions. Originally the lighting was just a rim light and a soft fill light but when viewed on different monitors, all the detail was lost so I had to brighten it up some and move the lights around. I think the balance I have now it pretty good and still gets across that dark moonlit forest vibe I want. When I made the scene I thought the bit was finished.

Oh, how naive i was.

It started with me wanting to add a stronger punchline to the end of the bit. Then wanting to do a close up of a face with detailed lip sync. Then wanting to fully animate it because I wanted it to feel more alive.

To figure out how to do the lipsync I decided to look over a book Ive been meaning to read for a while, The Animator's Survival Kit. This book has genuinely changed the way I think about animation on a fundamental level and I havnt even finished it yet. I wont animate until I finish reading the book because I know anything I animate now would just have to be redone later. When I finish the book Ill talk some more about it, but until then Ill be sharing more stuff ive been working on as of late. I wanna go into more detail with the process behind the bits in a more thorough and individual way, like this post does for example. There are also some things Ive been working on related to animation which ill share later in its own post aswell. Anyways I hope your mold is flourishing, and your spore plentiful.
