love, love, love this episode. Definitely, in my opinion, one of Sam's best wins, both in terms of curing Dean, and bringing his brother back, despite being injured and beat to hell, emotionally and physically, but also in a more subtextual way. Sam has had such a long, intense journey with demons, from Azazel, to Ruby, to Lilith, was infected with Demon blood, possessed, marked. And then, with everything he had to do with the Trials, and failing to complete them... I feel like this episode really gives him a lot of closure with his demonic arc. Curing not only Dean's demonic essence, proving he can (and has) wiped out the trace of demon both in his brother and himself, finishing and surviving each of the Hell Trials, something nobody else has ever done in the history of humanity. It's just such a huge victory for Sam, over demons, over himself and his own self-doubts and low-self-esteem. This episode, in my opinion, is the start of Sam's journey to where we see him in season 11, and his end of repairing his relationship with Dean that severed in season 4. Choosing Dean, holding onto him, refusing to let him become the same thing he became with Ruby, and refusing to walk away, or back down the same way Dean almost did with him. Staying strong enough to hold Dean off, to keep curing him, until back up arrives. Such an amazing episode to display Sam's strength and resilience, and Jared's acting (his fear, desperation, terror, hopefulness, utter relief at the end) is freaking phenomenal
