The X-Files - 11x1 "My Struggle III" Full Reaction

No. The mythology was made up as they went along. This is a fact. If it weren't for Frank Spotnitz, the mytharc would be a complete disaster even in the original series. Thank God for Frank Spotnitz. Carter was always strictly against having a series bible. He also strongly dislikes continuity. There are plenty of interviews and behind the scenes info which supports this. Carter created the show, set a great thing in motion indeed... but it was a team effort all around. If it weren't for other players in the game, I doubt TXF would have made it past two seasons. I cannot believe people still believe the "CC has a plan" nonsense. He does not. He never had a plan. William is just a plot device to be used for Carter's "creative" twists and turns to unleash upon the fans. Without any spoilers, this is William's arc so far: -> William is conceived and Scully’s pregnancy is a mystery. -> William needs to be killed, by Skinner, as ordered by Krycek. -> William is protected by Krycek. -> William is of interest to the super-soldiers. -> William is not of interest to the super-soldiers. -> William is the perfect child with no human frailties, which “one could only hope” to create in a lab. -> William is a miracle, proof of “a higher power,” and “the truth we (Mulder and Scully) both know.” -> William is Mulder and Scully’s child. -> William is again of interest to the super-soldiers, and also to a UFO cult, because of a prophecy. -> William is a natural-born super-soldier injected with magnetite by Jeffrey Spender so that he can be normal. -> William is given up for adoption for safety, because the antagonists will never accept that he’s normal. -> William’s adoption is regretted. -> William must be searched for and found at all costs. -> William will actually find Mulder and Scully, and there’s no need to search for him. -> William actually “wants us (Mulder and Scully) to find him” after all. -> William is not normal, and Spender’s vaccine seems to have been useless. -> William was actually an experiment created by CSM, as he impregnated Scully “with science.” (right now we are here)

I will give you a big discussion about William and what he is after the last episode. I would love to lay it out now but I will let you watch on and discover some of it that you can on a first watch through!!! This episode is one reason it takes at least 3 or 4 times watching the entire series and both movies to really wrap your mind around it. But I will say Chris Carter was true to his mythology there were clues that point to the big reveal in this episode in previous episodes especially season 7 En Amie!!! Chris Carter was just very good at holding his cards close to his chest!!!

Nella Rogers

Why was he going to kill Scully anyway? Just to be a creep? hahaha

Amália Coccia

How about Mulder following that guy for, what, was it six hours? And the whole rushed editing and everything all over the place, like the episode doesn't flow whatsoever. The same guy is then suddenly at Scully's hospital, and then Mulder arrives as well, and then there's a freaking scalpel in her room... and he slits his throat? Yeah... way too many embarrassing WTF moments. It's funny if you think about it.

Demijan Omeragic

Cool, I'll send you a PM over there.

Oh come on, for goodness' sake. The only liar here is CC. He lies in his interviews. He lies during AMA sessions. He talks such BS about the mytharc and also M&S in general that one cannot wrap his/her mind around it. He has become incoherent. He has resurrected CSM after receiving a missile to the face and being turned into powder, without explanation. How can anybody take him seriously after that? Not to mention countless other things. I have spent my time dissecting the revival from A to Z, and I've written what you could even call a dissertation on it. It has been read on Reddit years ago and I received tons of feedback, so I'll post a link on here after the revival is completely finished. However, starting a discussion about William at this point would only lead to spoilers, and we all wanna avoid posting spoilers. After the revival is done, we can gladly discuss the "CSM lies" excuse, but at this point it is not suitable. If you enjoy the revival, that's cool. If you enjoy even the "My Struggle" episodes, that's fine, too... but... making excuses for CC's atrocious writing simply and the destruction of the characters and the mythology simply isn't the way to go.

Demijan Omeragic

We all know CSM lies. Why would we believe what he said about being William's father?

Of course, it‘s lara240

😂😂😂 there is so much awful that I even forgot about the MRI morse code…what the fuck was that? It reads like someone fed AI the most unhinged plotlines and this these struggle episodes is what came out. They really are a struggle lol I can almost imagine Chris Carter getting the green light for the reboot and just procrastinating and hate writing these, it’s his struggle - and ours trying to get through them.

Amália Coccia

The level of cringe in this episode, when it comes to dialogue too, is just... almost unbearable. "You wanna see me snap?"... "That's morse code!". LOL. :D And yeah... they have Spender's number saved as JEFFREY SPENDER on the phone? Also the goon chasing Spender... he hits him with the car almost killing him, then Spender gets behind that door, and the goon just slams his hands on it, yells "ALL WE NEED IS THE BOY!", and walks away. WTF? How was this garbage even written? CSM is worried "If Mulder finds me he'll kill me." Uh... how will he kill you if a missile turning you into powder wasn't able to do it? Sigh... I guess if you look at it as a comedy it's enjoyable.

Carter is a horrible planner, really worst of the worst, he doesn't give a damn about continuity. Even when it comes to the mythology, we have Frank Spotnitz to thank, even David Duchovny, for some amazing stuff. I shudder to think what the original mytharc would've looked like if only Carter had been involved. Terrible planner, and he even admitted that he isn't a fan of continuity. However, the MS2 dream/vision thing was indeed planned at the time. That's because people at the Haven boards where I posted, got info from someone who met a person at an event who was close to Carter. And he was told literally that everything which we saw happen after the "zoom" into Scully's eye at the end of MS2 was in Scully's head. Everyone over there thought it was BS, that there's no way Carter is just gonna turn that thing into a dream or whatever, but... eventually the season 11 trailed leaked, and spoilers started coming out, so we were all like WTF it's really true. Yeah... I mean, imagine so many years having passed since the original series, and you get the opportunity to revive it, to revive a cult series with such a huge fan base, and the best you can come up with... is the My Struggle episodes. I legitimately feel sorry for what reactors like Shelley and Emily (but also others) have to go through, who have enjoyed the original series so much, but then I also tell them to literally separate the original series from the revival and look at them as two seperate entities. If you do that, it doesn't impact you that much. Plus, I'm sure there will be moments in this season that they will appreciate.

Demijan Omeragic

Cool, who are you on there if I may ask?

Demijan Omeragic

Yeah...now you know why we hate the reboot...just UGH disgusting. I mean, if you're going to ruin William at least give us a good episode. not this shit cake with a turd on top...so sloppy, and also full of itself with the seventh grade pompous voice overs "there was a drum in my heart"? yeah ok. So much nonsense, why even bring Einstein and wannabe Mulder back? I hate all of it. I think what stings most is that up to this point all the bad writing didn't mess with the original series, all the bullshit happened after, but this kind of takes a dump backwards. Like watching all the scenes of Scully being so happy with William or Per Manum, there's always that knowledge in the back of my mind that that's Smoking Man's kid (ew) and oh yeah the fact that she was raped. again. Can't blame Gillian for not wanting to be back without first reading the scripts. I'll go watch some of the real X-Files episodes now as a palate cleanser...

Amália Coccia

First of all: Horrible episode, no doubt. Finally we know the name of the CSM. Carl Gearhart Bush Spender. 😂 I thought that was the laziest wrap up of a cliffhanger, I ever saw. I'm not even sure if it was Carters plan to wrap it up the way he did. To me it felt like he realized, that he had written himself into a corner, and then he was like "let's pretend all of this never happened". It's kinda like ADHD-writing. He puts so much stuff into these "My struggle" episodes, then he doesn't really know what to do with it, while already trying to put something new into it. The other syndicate guy was credited as Mr Y. We never saw him before. The reveal that the CSM is Williams dad, kinda ruined all William related episodes of the previous seasons for me. 😞 The plottwist going back to season 7 kinda makes sense to me, but it isn't at all what I wanted them to do. Of course it isn't. However, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy some of the coming episodes. It's not all bad. It's Carters mytharc writing, which sucks at this point. If you can see beyond that, you'll be fine. We had 3 horrible Chris Carter episodes in a row now, I know that's a bit tiring. 🙈

Wolfgang Engel

Great reaction to that piece of shit-episode. Chris Carter aka spawn of Satan. So many thing’s wrong with this episode but on the top of the list: let us have Scully go through ANOTHER medical rape. Yey! What an innovative way of thinking! Great writing! And let her be raped by CSM and try to destroy the nicest thing that ever happened to Scully and Mulder: their child. Carter also reeeeaaaally likes his fans..not so much. Oh, and the fact that Mulder has been in a relationship and had sex with the mother of his brother. Amazing. Is this Days of our lives? Thank Jebus for the next couple of weeks.

Baconbob23

I absolutely agree with you in everything, simply terrible. Any Fanfic author would have written better stories. Btw, i'm still on the Haven forum from time to time but only in the Gillian section.

Daniela Keller

“I have to laugh to not cry” same 😩 I can only say that it’s not always this bad. We had a great episode last season and may have a couple of them this time too. Now that we got that out of the way, excited for next week. Thanks for a great reaction to a horrendous episode.

PeachyKeen

MS1: CSM with tracheostomy and mask (not fully healed) MS2: CSM with tracheostomy and mask (not fully healed) MS3: CSM without tracheostomy and mask (healing completed) CSM with a tracheostomy first appears in MS1 at the end, meaning prior to Scully’s visions in MS2. In other words, continuity… shmontinuity. Occam’s razor: What Emily said in the video. They just didn’t want to do the same prosthetics again.

Demijan Omeragic

We are supposed to believe that the events we see in “My Struggle II” are Scully’s visions of a possible future, the visions coming from William. The absurdity lies in the fact how the visions themselves are presented. Scully sees entire lengthy sequences of events, in thorough detail, even from a different person’s perspective, such as Mulder’s fight with the goon or his entire showdown with CSM. She also sees other person’s flashbacks / memories, as visions within visions, with Reyes telling her how she came into contact with CSM at the hospital. She also sees detailed broadcasts of O’Malley’s show, among other things with O’Malley interviewing a guest on his show. There’s also Agent Miller in the XF office finding the phone tracking application on Mulder’s computer. All of that being shown to her by William? Lol.

Demijan Omeragic

Of course I hit the like button just because of your cool reaction video, and not this garbage episode which has absolutely nothing to do with the original X-Files series. :)

Demijan Omeragic

Hi Emily, thanks for posting. :) Thoughts and prayers indeed! I wish you could've seen how we fans reacted when this originally aired, minus the Chris Carter apologists of course. We were all participating in a closed X-Files community forum (known as the Haven / Idealistshaven), posting live as the episode aired. And although we did have some spoilers regarding this "reveal", no one truly believed it until it finally happened on screen. But yeah... I'm sorry for what you have to go through. To me the revival is pure trash. All of it. I've said this before. Sorry for the people who enjoy parts of it, I simply cannot feel the same. A "funny" or cute episode here and there cannot remedy the complete destruction of the mythology, the character assassinations, and tons of other things. And Shelley again seems to be focused on the disc. I don't know who led you guys on this false path hoping that the disc comes back in some way. It does not. I've posted before, saying not to focus on the disc, that this is misleading information, but it seems whoever posted that nonsense was convincing, obviously. Yeah... welcome to "Event Series II" a.k.a "season eleven". To be fair though and not completely negative, I think you guys will find some enjoyable moments here and there, so not all is lost. If you enjoy standalone episodes you will probably be entertained more than in the previous season. Not me though, simply because I look at it from a different perspective. Take care and best wishes. Greetings from Germany.

thoughts n prayers
