Changing the timeline of course would have a domino effect.
Shield seems to be rebuilding itself after the events of the last two seasons. The government has allowed them to even rebuilt Shield Academy and recruit new people.
If you think about why Shield was on the run in season 4 it was because Daisy shot Talbot but the ending of season 5 Daisy killing a powered Talbot who people saw destroying Chicago. This would help clear her name because they all would assume she attacked Talbot for a reason.
If you think about it from the MCU perspective the people most prepared for the snap were our people. They spent months in the future with humans struggling to survive and they came back preparing for the world to possibly split open.
They are living in a survival bunker with supplies that will last for 70 years and half the people on earth disappearing is actually a much better situation then 99% of the population when earth split.
They already grieved those deaths months before so a year later they would be mostly ok. It is the deaths closest to them like Fitz and Coulson that they could have stopped that would hurt them more.

An unsettling and upsetting start to the season, that's for sure, and a lot of setup to contend with (as per usual). I remember feeling very WTF when watching the premiere. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the season!
Also, this episode I believe is definitely a nod to the aftermath of the Snap. For example:
- It's a year later, which explains why people aren't actively grieving or freaking out.
- Lots of new faces around, which would make sense with the Snap causing an instant high turnover.
- SHIELD is simpatico with everyone again and out in the open, which I think could only have happened if something big went down (say, a worldwide disaster in which a group of highly trained operatives helping out would bank a lot of goodwill).
- We see a little bit of outside, but only in a limited scope — a handful of kids playing ball, a few people walking by a pretty empty-looking museum, a bar that isn't full.
- Mack and Yo-Yo being on the outs could be just their own issues, but I could also envision Mack's brother being Snapped, for instance, that would add some tension and grief on top of everything else and contribute to the breakup.
And so on. I also don't think it's unreasonable that all of our team got spared. The original Avengers all did, all of the Pym-Van Dynes got Snapped, as did Peter and most of his classmates, etc. Lots of narrative contrivances happened in the movies, I don't have an issue with the same happening for the show.

Really like this opener. The Sarge reveal was really well done and I enjoyed a lot of the aesthetic choices. The space scenes were beautiful. Also, like you said, lots of new stuff and new faces but I think they did a great job integrating them all. It's not just new for us as viewers, but it's new for the team too.
