The show has always talked about Natural order and Mary's deal to save John and Dean not dying in faith were huge dominos. They just ended in more deals and more sacrifices. Death wants Dean to also stop cas's deal with Crowley because attacking the alphas is messing with natural order.

I always understood this to be about the "natural order" and how many times the Winchesters created domino effects for Death and other supernatural beings to have to deal with in their universe. The plot of S6 relies heavily on the consequences of having free will and choosing freedom over peace, also one of the main themes of S5 when the apocalypse was averted and set the events of S6 in motion. Regardless if those choices are right or wrong, it's fun to explore and ask those questions. This episode shows that Dean is facing the weight of those consequences from a macro perspective so he is better able to understand and maybe even empathize. Also, we got a confirmation that this season "is about the souls". ETA: I really like what you had to say about the bigger picture as well. Well done. Death is using Sam and Dean to move chess pieces on the board between him and Chuck IMO. I'm halfway through the episode, so if this is premature then I'll edit.

2024-10-20 14:47:18 +0000 UTCThank you for clarifying you were excited for Mark Sheppard and not that one dick. 😅 This is probably my 3rd favorite episode of the series next to Swan Song and In My Time of Dying. And Tessa didn't have anything to do with the girl dying. It was Dean creating a domino effect. Which you saw would've also led to her husband dying/killing someone in a DUI.
