Man, I wish someone had told me being Catholic gives us magic shape-shifting powers.
Yeah... this started out pretty spooky... but the explanation is pretty silly. Especially because I'm pretty sure the Catholic Church has said transubstantiation doesn't *physically* change the bread and wine. So... anyway...
Oh, and return of Emily's Jack-O-Lantern sweater! ... I continue to be jealous...

Huh? This episodes was written and directed by John Shiban, not Chris Carter.

I appreciate this episode really. When I first saw it during its original airing I didn't feel that way. I felt bored, wasn't even interested in following the story or trying to figure everything out. Years later I revisited it and started to appreciate it. Far from a fantastic episode or even a great one, but IMO a good one nonetheless. There's much, much worse than this, especially in S5 and S7. I won't comment on upcoming episodes / seasons at this point. Enjoyed your reaction though. Take care.

Fun fact: Chris Carter and his team were informed that the show won't be renewed for a tenth season, during the production of this episode. But I think the only ones who really were upset about this, were Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish. 😅 I read once that it almost felt like a relief not only for Anderson, also for Chris Carter. Both were held under contract to this point.
This episode had the alltime low rating of the entire original series, with 7.29 Million viewers. (revival seasons not counted).
My personal opinion: It's the seasons worst episode (not the worst of the entire series), and it's not that I hate it, it's just that I don't care for it. Forgettable episode. And that's why I don't really want to comment on the plot.
