They didn't "get" Ivanova for the last episode; due to the uncertainty whether there would be a Season 5, they filmed Sleeping in Light while filming Season 4, so Ivanova was still under contract.
The whole "Why didn't Ivanova return in S5" is a lot of He Said/She Said. My impression is that JMS wanted Claudia to return in S5, but there were a number of contract disputes, and time ran out on resolving them.

One of the things about B5 that makes it feel realistic is that the show is pretty much about a 5 year period...it's realistic that not everything just falls into the scope of and wraps up in one story...that said it's also kinda frustrating having things set up for payoffs we don't get to actually see...but it really does make a lot of sense.
That said, JMS *Did*, in one way or another fill in the blanks for us...
G'kar and londo's end is presented as hostile and murderous...but that's just how it's perceived from Londo's point of view from his dreams, and our POV from our brief look at it...when it actually happens, why and how are another matter entirely. Check out the centauri book trilogy, if you can find it, for the details.
Lyta and Lennier we eventually got the answers to, though we never get to see it. In fact, there's an episode of Crusade that briefly shows us what happens with the Psy-corps, and there's a telepath in that episode that was supposed to be lyta, but they couldn't get the actress...
Crusade was, to be blunt, killed in the womb. It was interfered with, manipulated and finally cancelled. Don't watch it focused on the cure to the plague...remember how B5 started with the mystery of the end of the earth-minbari war(all while setting up the shadows and the story to come), and wrapped that up at the start of season 2 then shifted into it's *main* story...Crusade is similar...but never got that far.
When you watch Crusade, you already know they find a cure. Instead focus on what they begin to set up for the *main* story. It still pisses me off that we'll never get to see that play out. Also, start with the episode War Zone. They didn't want to make a traditional "first epsiode"...and were forced to...but it's literally the start...for good or ill, it makes *zero* sense to watch it anywhere except first.

Shelly, I want to thank you for sharing your journey through this amazing show. You have been one of the few reactors who simply have taken the show at face value, and, while there have been episodes you might not have enjoyed, I’ve loved how you let the story unfold and let yourself be carried by it. Thank you for allowing us to see how much you came to care for the characters, and thank you for the sincerity and honesty of your responses. You are one of my favorite reactors.

There are three canon trilogies of novels which fill in many of the blanks. 🙂

Delenn remained President of the Alliance. Ivanova replaced Sheridan as Ranger One. Oh, the guy who switched off B5's lights is JMS himself.

Jesus god did I ugly cry rewatching this. Great score for the goodbye. Re Lorien - he said, through Kosh - when the long night comes, return to the end of the beginning. I think defeating the Vorlons and Shadows is the end of the beginning, when the younger races started to stand on their own.

Crusade was intended to be another 5 year journey, but it got sabotaged repeatedly. The non-mention in this episode is the only real clue that they succeeded in defeating the plague.

I would love there to be another 5 year long follow-up series that focuses on David. It is a lovely universe that we need to see more of, IMHO.

In the flashback/forward where we saw them at each other's throats, the reason that G'Kar is strangling Londo is because they are trying to save Sheridan and Delenn. Londo drank enough to put his "keeper" to sleep, but the keeper is waking up and when they find out that they have conspired to let them get away, they will raise the alarm and stop their escape. Londo WANTS G'Kar to kill him at that point to save his friends... and finally be free of the Drakh, while G'Kar is fine going out protecting and freeing his friends.

I like to follow this with The Deconstruction of Falling Stars, because it helps frame things with Delenn and how the echoes of all of it continue for a million years...
