BTW, super-soldiers were not a military creation. This is a fake story made by Knowle Rohrer and Shannon McMahon (Lucy Lawless' character). What the show refers to as super-soldiers now were actually correctly named alien replicants / human replacements in season eight. The story basically believes in "Deadalive" and "Three Words", later "Essence" and "Existence". You have seen Billy Miles as an example. He was abducted by aliens, experimented on, returned as dead, came back to life, and became a new type of alien. Don't let the term super-soldier confuse you into thinking this is some military experiment which was influenced by aliens. The show has so far provided zero evidence for it, quite the opposite in fact. What happens to Deadalive to Billy Miles is also what would've happened to Mulder if Scully hadn't saved him. Absalom (the "prophet" from season eight) accurately predicted that returned abductees would be transformed into aliens unless they are saved. I am going to give you a good example of a similar fake story all the way back in season two, "Colony". The Alien Bounty Hunter disguised as a CIA agent explains to Mulder and Scully that the Bounty Hunter is a "russian spy killer". Similarly here, alien replicants / human replacements are presented as "military super-soldiers" by Knowle Rohrer and Lucy Lawless in order to fool people into thinking they're not aliens. And they succeed by doing so, since it makes Doggett obviously 100% convinced that they are not aliens but military.

You guys really love the show. What an awesome video. It's definitely not one of my favorite episodes (far from it), but it's one of my favorite openings and endings to be honest. The intro as well as the final scene with Kersh, Follmer, and Toothpick Man. BTW, it might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm a huge fan of "Toothpick Man" or Charles Widmore as you call him. I admire your dedication in trying to decypher that which is the current mess regarding William, "the prophecy", and Mulder's absence. I'm pretty sorry you had to go through all that, rewinding and trying to make sense of it, but it was also thoroughly enjoyable seeing how much you are passionate about trying to figure it out.

By the way, the mysterious FBI guy played by Alan Dale (Lost), is credited the "Toothpick Man". And he really was supposed to be established as a new super villain, kinda like the new smoking man, because they still were thinking they would get more seasons. And that's what the mytharc this season suffers from. They are still in build up mode, and not wrapping things up, as they aren't aware that they are in their final season. Fantastic analyzation of the prophecy theme though.

hahaha honestly, it took me as long as you guys to understand all that....and I kinda watched the show before! Swear to god I was typing that you'd need a wall of crazy with the red strings when Emily suggested it!

I love love love this reaction! I would also love to thank the both of you for doing the deep dive on the prophecy because my last remaining brain cell refused to comprehend it the first time I watched this episode ๐Ÿคฃ I'm now at the final season and up until today I was just going with the vibes without any clear understanding of what the prophecy actually was lmfao ๐Ÿ˜ญ But I def agree with Emily's interpretation at 58:28.
