It took me a long time to "forgive" Cas for letting Sam loose. I know that he was just following orders, but what he did messed up the world for years to come. I was sure that none of the following mess would have happened if he'd not let Sam loose. Cas had come on board and he had found out what the angels plans really were. That's what he was going to tell Dean. But the angels stopped him. He eventually came back on board, but it was too late. If only he hadn't waited so long Dean likely could have stopped Sam in time. So, when Cas later gets pissy with the boys for not stopping Lucifer and Cas having made his Choice, thinking it was all for naught, I got mad again. It was because of Him that Dean wasn't able to stop Sam! So why is he mad at them about it? Yeah. Took me a while and it's obviously not fully gone. Yes, I know, none of them have clean hands for things like this. yadda yadda - lol

- Chuck as god ... no, not specifically Chuck since it was a spoiler at that time, but the character god was intended to "appear". (Note: Chuck as god wasn't mentioned anywhere at all, until after the S5 finale and it was only revealed to Rob Benedict unofficially by Eric Kripke himself).

- And we may actually get to see God as a character at some point, according to producer Sera Gamble.

At min 2.53 “We are approaching it cautiously,” Gamble says. “There is a lot of doubt because a lot of characters are angry at God for not stepping in and doing something about what’s going on.”

The highlights from the writeups above are:
Eric Kripke on if God will show up this year: "We are going to meet God this year. Not anytime soon and not in the first run, but God is a character which has lead to hilarious and heady times in the writers' room in 'Supernatural.' [Laughs.] Trying to break God's motivation: what does God want in this scene?"

So this thread here is about the 2009 Comic-Con panel: my highlight takeaways, links to report writeups, and videos in the replies.
The two major highlights for me are that: -
- Going into S5, the writers already knew and planned to make Chuck the character god.
- As a Cas and Misha fan, I was pleased to see and hear how Eric, on stage, heaped such high praises upon Misha and credited him mostly for the success of the angel plot arc.
(Note: We got a more definitive, confirmed answer in the podcast SPNThenandNow of the episode Spotlight on Eric Kripke at min 44.16. He said when they began mapping S5, they needed to eventually answer "where is God in all this?", and someone put forward, "well, what if Chuck is God?" Definitely at the start of S5. When preparing 5.04 The End they hilariously, laughingly debated with each other about Chuck hoarding toilet paper, "... well, is he God?! can he be God?" because of that one scene).

About Ruby,
Hindsight being what it is, we can look back on the S3 Ruby as played by Katie Cassidy - we can see the little pushes and digs. She plays into Sam's needs and wants, his secret insecurities, and his need to prove himself by saving Dean.
Katie's Ruby creates the image of a tough-as-nails hunter type because that is what Sam will respond to in his need in savior mode. She also has Dean to deal with, Dean who despises demons and won't give her any time of day. Therefore she needs to be bold and brash and full-on aggression and never-take-any-shit action person whenever Dean counteracts her (i.e. ending of Jus in Bello).
Ruby as played by Gen had a gentler edge to her, a seductive ally. This is what she needs to do to push past Sam's grief and massive guilt over Dean's death. She is dealing with a different (read: vulnerable) Sam who has no Dean to watch over him, hence she doesn't have to be tough with him like before.
When Dean comes back from hell, she praises Sam to build up his hubris** that "only he can avenge Dean's death and save the world at the same time." She vows she doesn't want to come between them, but subtly belittles and undermines everything that Dean stands for.
The choice of differing characterization is intentional and fits the narrative purposes of this arc, unfortunately, most fans didn't pick up on it, and Gen endured the backlash.
** She even let Sam have the credit in Heaven and Hell for coming up with the,
SAM (to Dean): Yeah, well, when you got Godzilla and Mothra on your ass, best to get out of their way and let them fight.
... when in fact it was she who came up with the plan first. Earlier in the episode, she said to Sam,
RUBY: Not this time. You do not want to get between these two armies. It's Godzilla and Mothra. If one side doesn't get us, the other one will.
... at least to me. The reaction face she made - like, "really?!" - directed at Sam when Dean praised Sam for 'his' plan that she got tortured by Alastair in the execution of it.
DEAN: I got to hand it to you, Sammy. Bringing them all together all at once -- angels and demons. It was a damn good plan.
... however, I couldn't verify the stage direction of that particular little closeup scene focusing on Ruby's reaction at that moment, since we don't have the script for the episode.

At min 16:06, Shelley loving the Ruby by Katie Cassidy version,
Same Shelley, same. At the same time, I also loved the Gen Pad's version. For me, both actresses bring different versions of Ruby as per what the writing choices required, i.e. the characterization presented by both actresses fits in the context of the changes needed by Ruby from S3 and into S4.
... more on Ruby in the reply.
At min 16.33, Shelley: I always wondered did she [Ruby] ever had any kind of feelings for him [Sam] ... I would like to have some insight on that ... only, only for fandom to debate.
Gen played her as if she's a little bit in love with Sam in an interview for the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" PR release and in Kripke's commentary in Lucifer Rising, he corroborated that feelings.
... anyway, there's more about Ruby in the Comic-Con 2009 panel.
At 48.16 Shelley muses on the genesis of the Monster at the end of this Book,
Eric Kripke told us in the panel, that the idea was from a writer's assistant (story by) Nancy Weiner, and the script was written (or teleplay) by Julie Siege. A transcript of what he said I put in the below reply too, that was lifted from the Comic-Con video.
(By the way, both Nancy and Eric Kripke are paired for the episode The Real Ghostbuster in S5, again story by Nancy, with Eric on the teleplay part, i.e. the script).

Oh yeah that is definitely the best line of 4x02 XD
I have the same thing with Lazarus rising. Every time I watch it I like it more and I've been a Cas fan before I even watched the whole ep for the first time.
