Supernatural - 3x8 "A Very Supernatural Christmas" Rewatch

Sam didn't know anything about how to kill these Gods. Bobby told Dean evergreen stakes were required. But I do think Sam won the episode - just barely. His willingness to forgo his sadness about "next year" to give Dean that happy/contented final Christmas was everything. You really need to get over the fact that they let Chuck live as a depowered being. 1) 12 years of learning & growing; 2) they proved that they're more than just killers; 3) Chuck having to live life depowered is worse than death. I think you let your aetheism color your feelings on the matter. It's too bad about the Samulet chipping Jensen's teeth, that he got rid of it. It would've made for some great references during the beginning of S6 when Dean was living with Lisa, or S9 when they separated. Or even when Deanmon was around, to have a piece of Sam's love with him. Such a wasted opportunity.

I actually didn't know there was a krampus movie I think... I only know the character/tradition (mainly because they're very popular in south germany and austria, where I've seen some costumes in museums and even some mask in an amusement park XD)

This episode always hits hard, no matter how many times I see it. It's also the first time we see that they're in Cicero. Which is something I started noticing after a few watches. That Cicero shows up in a few episodes over the seasons. Which is important to me, because it's where Lisa lives.

IIRC, Jared actually spiked that eggnog, so Jensen's reaction was real lol

About Dean sheltering Sam from knowing about monster-hunting - he says this in that heartbreaking speech to Sam's dead body in s2 : "when we were little— and you couldn't been more than 5— you just started asking questions. How come we didn't have a mom? Why do we always have to move around? Where'd Dad go when he'd take off for days at a time? I remember I begged you, "Quit asking, Sammy. Man, you don't want to know." I just wanted you to be a kid... Just for a little while longer. I always tried to protect you... Keep you safe... Dad didn't even have to tell me." And we got a Christmas episode in s14 - the Die Hard one where Michael takes back Dean!

Jeremy Carver wrote some of top episodes in seasons 3, 4 and 5 - Mystery Spot, 4.03 In the Beginning, 4.20 The Rapture, 5.03 Free to Be You and Me, 5.08 Changing Channels, 5.15 Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - and he went on to make Doom Patrol, which is brilliant

Shelley - the first instance of gods was in "Scarecrow". We also had one in "Tall Tales" before this episode. OMG this episode. It gets me every time. I agree about it hitting harder once you know what's happening, and that's part of the magic of SPN. Everything has much more impact the second, third, tenth...etc... time around. It doesn't get easier. This ep. has become a tradition in my home - I watch it with my boys every Christmas Season. From beginning to end it's top notch - it's in my top 5 for sure. And HUGE shout out to J. Miller Tobin for the truly epic directing. The shots and the lighting were just outstanding (as are the rest of his episodes too). I love that this episode explored the reason Sam was not a fan of Christmas (learning about monsters, his mom and that santa wasn't real all at the same time on that day) besides the fact that John wasn't always there. Through those flashbacks, he remembers how Dean was there for him, how he told him the truth and tried to give him a Christmas. So it was his turn to step up for Dean (which was the entire original plan for S3) - and he did. Full circle when it mattered the most. Just beautiful. ETA: Still salty that we were robbed of the original storyline.

I have a theory that Chuck actually gave the amulet to Sam. Bobby didn't know anything about it when Cas was looking for something to find God.
