I agree.. Jensen plays a good bad guy (Tom Hanniger, Soldier Boy), but Jared does excellent portraying evil.

Dean tried to call Bobby, but Meg/Sam cut the phone line. Bobby's just plain smart. He probably has all his beer laced just to be on the safe side. I like your theory of the 'HotH' regarding God killing that guy to push Dean more toward the belief side of religion. At this point in the story, he needed Dean to believe so when the time came it would be easier to have him resist Michael. At least that's my thinking. Absolutely NO Dean/Jo. Dean always treated her like a little sister (the only abberation being 5.10). There was no chemistry there, either, which is odd since Jensen seems to have chemistry with even inanimate objects. Yes, I think Dean would've been a smoker, since Jensen is a casual smoker. But can't be too realistic on the CW.

I love the idea of chuck winning the episode for houses of the holy. Jared does an excellent villain, I love every episode where Jared plays a bad guy. The way he says my daddy shot your daddy in the head is forever burned in my brain, so iconic

I had no idea!

I'm always surprised that no one mentions anything about the car Sam had driven while possessed and put in that garage. That's Ava's car! I can't be the only one who noticed it and made the connection.

About Sera Gamble - I don't know what all went down, but I heard that there was a lot of behind the scenes drama during Gambles run. I don't think she was respected by the other producers, and sounded like they really made it hard for her to realize her vision. I think there's some truth to it, but I also know that it's a lot different being the lead producer verses a lead writer. But we have heard that Sera wanted to bring the show back to what it was in season 1. She thought it was better when Sam and Dean were on their own. So she wanted to get rid of their support. Cas, Bobby. At least that's what I heard. She wanted to start fresh, with her own vision. I think it was a mistake and she likely learned a lot from it.

To answer one of your questions, Kripke at first wanted the Roadhouse to become their home base but decided during the season that he didn’t like it…so then it really shifts to Bobby during the second half of the season.

The song at the end is actually REO Speedway - Back on the Road Again. I remember you mentioning something in a reaction that made me realise you didn't remember this episode so I expected you not to remember much about this episode. I can't remember when though lol. I voted for Houses of the Holy for a watch because of the foreshadowing lol. I love when Sam was asking the priest 'is that Michael' and points in the direction of Dean! It was also a test for Kripke to see how the audience would respond the angels, as he had the idea but wasn't sure if he'd use angels, so this was kind of a test to see what people thought.

I think I would classify House of the Holy as a motw, mainly because the lore/plot bits are mostly bigger scale relations and not really connected to the season arc itself. I do like the god/chuck headcanon though. I'd be fine with both a win for god or a win for Sam.

I really liked this episode. I give it an 8.5. I think Jared is amazing playing a villain. He can flip a switch and show a different character so well. (Same when he played soulless Sam or Gadreel or Lucifer.) I actually think he is even stronger playing “bad” characters… it really gives him the chance to show his acting chops. I think this was a myth arc ep, and I give the win to Bobby for figuring out the binding link. The line that stands out most to me is when Dean says, “I’d rather die.” 😢 Or “If it’s the last thing I do, I’m going to save you.” About the last episode House of the Holy, I also really liked that one. I give it an 8.3 Like you said it is even better on rewatch, knowing where the series goes. I enjoy learning more about Sam’s faith and internal struggle. And remember in the episode where the boys first meet metatron, Sam talks to Dean about how even as a child he felt impure always. That when he read about King Arthur knights, he always felt like he could never go on a quest like that because he wasn’t pure. So it seems like even though he didn’t know why back then, that guilt and shame were somehow always there. I think that’s part of the reason Sam always feels like he has to prove himself. I feel that House of the Holy was definitely a hybrid, because it ties directly to Sam’s internal struggles and feelings about himself in regard to being “good” or “evil” and introduces the idea of a higher power and both boys views on that. . I personally always love myth arc or hybrids better than motw episodes, simply because I love the big picture storylines the most. Anyway, great reaction as always.

Great reaction Shelley 😄 definitely fun for you to get a new experience. I agree with Sarai about how much fun it is to watch for the little meg hints that Jared puts in tho. There is a lot of fun on the first watch trying to figure out if Sam is going darkside but I love how many clues are there in the rewatch once we know what’s really happening. Great fun. Cheers 👍🏻😄

Hey Shelley! It was really fun watching this reaction, since you didn’t really remember the episode at all. I really love this episode for Dean's unwillingness to hurt Sam, and Jared's acting. Once you know that he’s playing Meg pretending to be Sam, you can see hints throughout the episode, also "Sam" seems just a little off even in the first half of the episode. There are moments when Jared shows just a brief hint of Meg!Sam's frustration at Dean refusing to hurt or believe badly of Sam, and his instant willingness to hide a murder: in the hunter's office, and even in the hotel room. Also, in the barn scene with Jo, Jared does a great job of playing Meg, when you know who you’re looking for, he even moves differently at times. It’s hard seeing "Sam" acting so horribly, especially to Jo and Dean, but I think Jared does a fantastic job. I actually really enjoy this episode on rewatch because you know what to look for in Sam, so I actually like it even more on rewatch. My understanding of Bobby and the holy water in the beer is that, he’s a "paranoid bastard," and he just does that when people come over and he gets them a drink. Meg cut the phone line, so I don’t think Dean got a hold of Bobby.
