So, it's easy to imagine how John could have found out what was going on too. Gordon told Dean, so now Dean knows some of what's going on. Just great. Like he needs more to worry about. My theory about why Ava turned bad was that she gave into her abilities. She "opened up". She says it's like a switch going off and things become clear and you become powerful. I think flipping that switch may bring with it something that affects behavior. Effectively tainting someone susceptible and "turning them bad".

2024-03-02 01:13:21 +0000 UTCNightshifter is put together like an actual heist movie. The camera work is beautifully done, the twists and turns keep the adrenaline pumping. Ronald is endearing, we've only just met him but his death is sad and means something to us Just seconds before he is shot, I find myself wondering what kind of hunter he could become and then further regret his death realizing what a great assist he could have been when the bunker and MOL were introduced. The introduction to Henrickson is chilling; the guy means business and he's a new player on the board that we expect to see again and not in a good way. His dialogue is great and not something we have seen before. He is a new kind of trouble for the boys. After seeing this again and looking back at Croatian, I have to say I would grade Nightshifter higher. The emotional punch goes to Croatoan for me, Dean's misery, anger and confusion thanks to John's last words, guts me and there are a few twists that surprise us but Nightshifter is excellently put together and gets top spot out of the two.

2024-02-28 16:35:19 +0000 UTCI usually don't really do ranking/rating for this kinda stuff objectivly, but since both Croatoan and Nightshifter are ranking pretty equally in my personal liking, I think from a more objective point I'd agree that Nightshifter is the better episode.

2024-02-28 15:50:56 +0000 UTCI think nightshifter is a better stand alone episode but taking into account what croatoan does for character development and plot while still having a great premise, it’s probably just slightly better, however if you’re just considering it as a single episode not connected to the overarching season, then nightshifter is better

2024-02-28 15:31:40 +0000 UTCThis was my favourite episode for such a long time on my first rewatch and even now its definitely top 15. I just can’t explain exactly why I love it so much but it is such a great episode, the situation they’re in is so unique to spn yet it still feels grounded and realistic in the spn world. It introduces Hendrickson and properly puts them on the fed’s radar which is always a storyline I enjoy. I’ve also always loved croatoan and jus in bello so maybe it’s something about the situational episodes that I love. They’re all just so different from what you’d expect but are really well written and directed. Anyway, I LOVE the dean and Ronald connection in this episode, because I think the show often focuses on Sam feeling like the odd one out or the “freak” (for obvious reasons) but it rarely shows us how much Dean connects to the outcasts of society and I think that’s a really important part of his character. Sam just wants to be normal so tends not to connect to people like Ronald but Dean finds solidarity in them and I love that
