It's Rufus's cabin they go to stay at when Bobby's house burns down, not Bobby's.

Season One is one of my favorites but for totally different reasons than the later seasons. It's dark, edgy, and a bit more "WB" than the other seasons which I like since I was a Charmed/Buffy/Roswell girl, and it immediately transports me back to the early 2000's. Definitely one of the best first seasons of any show I've seen and I think we have Kripke to thank for that. It has a strong storyline and rich character development that shines through even during the more Monster of the Week episodes. All in all loving your re-reactions. Side note I can't see that ending scene in the car without thinking of the gag reel with them all giggling, I hope you will re-watch those as you go along too :).

Abigail

Those are good points! That definitely adds weight to the blood argument.

Addition to my earlier comment re the special kids and why I think it came from yellow eyes bleeding into the babies mouths…. I’m rewatching and in s3 finale, Ruby is talking to Sam about how he can save Dean, and says, “You’ve got some God-given talents.” (Pauses) “Well, not God-given.” I think this supports they come from yellow-eyes. And in 4x7 Uriel says to Sam, ‘You’ve been warned, yet you brazenly use the powers Azazel gave to you.”(after Sam exorcised Samhain.)

I also think they have the powers because of the blood, but the mention of the 10 year ahead deals also made me wonder how he even knew they'd have such small kids, since he always targeted kids exactly 6 months old and always around the same time. Right?

I think the difference in eye colour might be becuase of the difference between contact lenses vs digital effect

Some interesting parallels for Future seasons. This episode John fights of possession to save dean. Season 5 EP 1 Bobby does the same thing and it comes back around in the finale in a full circle moment to Sam fighting of Lucy to save dean. The fact that Azazel said things very similar to what John says next episode tells me that John always wanted to say those things to dean but his baggage and this life made it hard to do so. Had to be focused to do what he had to do. Next episode that baggage is gone. Dean doesn't recognize his father without all the stress of the life which is why his hunter sense started going off. Azazel also targeted dean because in the back of his mind he remembers Dean from in the beginning. Which is also why he knows so much about who Dean is. Too bad he never believes him when he says he will be the one that kills him in 4x3. If the show had ended here then the lesson would have been the road to revenge just leads to everyone dying.

omg I never thought about the john/azazel parallel going all the way back to the pilot like that. great catch!

That’s the line I pick too, hands down. #lovedeansomuch

I love that we can all really dig deep and analyze things now that we all know what happens later. It really adds so much being able to see the full picture. I definitely fell even more in love with the show (and Dean lol) on rewatches. I am so addicted to this show that I even enjoy going back and watching your original reactions to certain episodes and then watch your rewatch reaction to see how your views differ on now knowing everything. 🙂 Re the special kids…. You have to remember Azazael made the deals with the moms ten years before he showed up to bleed in the kids mouths. How would he know in advance kids not yet born would have powers? I still think they have the powers because of the blood. Strong demons can move things with their minds and other things… I hate to “argue” (with love lol)… but I still stand on the hill of his blood gave them powers. Plus he always is sure to call them HIS special kids, not the special kids...and it’s said he is creating his army. I looooved this episode. My heart broke for Dean at several places. Plus Bobby!!!!❤️ This episode was hard to watch with Meg dying with the actress now gone. 💜😢 RIP The line for me was definitely where Dean said about how there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for Sam or his dad. Family is everything to Dean. Full stop. I agree things with those possessions seemed weird to what we see later. I try to head canon it to explain it that the demons were already there, but they had been letting the demon in the background then they took over at that moment. I love s2 season premiere but NO episode beats s4 ep1 Lazarus Rising in my book, because CAS!!! 💙💚

I was really struck this time by the similarity between the way Azazel!John talks to him about what he did for the family here, and the way John talks to him in 2.01 about the same thing. John's been paired/paralleled with Azazel since the pilot, when Mary's mistakes one for the other in the darkness of Sam's nursery. It is extraordinary to come here from s15 and see how baby they are and how naive about demons etc! This is where they start learning. It's useful to be reminded by Bobby that demons were rare before now, hence hunters not knowing how to deal with them. In s4 In the Beginning, Azazel picks two victims for his 10-year deal before Mary, and he picks her almost by chance when she comes to help her friend. So I'm not sure the special children are special before he 'infects' them with his blood, or maybe marks them in some unseen way through the deal with their parent-to-be. What happens if the parent doesn't have kids, or doesn't have children on the right timetable? What if Mary and John had Dean and then decided to get sterilised? Maybe he had had some effect on the parent to induce that. I always thought Dean was the most seriously hurt because he had already been ripped up inside by Azazel, rather than damaged by the crash.

In a parallel universe dean is either a firefighter, a mechanic or a rock star

The yellow eyes here are contacts - in future it's done in post production, which is why the eyes look a bit different. The person who plays Tessa talked about how she couldn't see much with the yellow contacts on in the next episode.

Sharon Owen

The fireman being possessed... maybe we didn't see the smoke... my head canon is they went through a different entry point on the body and not the mouth haha

Sharon Owen

There are many fire fighter AUs! My quote would be dean saying"the things I'm willing to do for you & dad, it scares me sometimes", because it's so important for the entire show and kinda is the basis for the entire carver era where we really examine the gray areas of the boys doing bad things in the name of family

Hasnaa

Are there fire fighter AU’s. Lololol, you know fandom well. 🤣

AdoptDontShopPets

-“Dean always wanted to be a fireman when he grew up” - ever since he carried his baby brother out of a burning building?🥺 -My favourite line is Dean saying ‘The things I’m willing to do it scares me sometimes’ - it’s so core to him. And I love the music here, it’s Dean’s Theme - it plays at all the big family moments throughout the whole series. Definitely one to watch out for when it brings the feels. -That car crash!! 🙌🏼😁 that is such a banger of a ending. First time I watched season 1 was just ok for me (I grew to love it more on rewatch), but I was bingeing it and watched this at 3 am to just to finish off the season, but once I saw this I couldn’t leave the cliffhanger 😄 I immediately had to put on season 2 and I was totally hooked from there on! It’s Azazel and the cabin and the crash that blow this episode out of the water 🙌🏼😄 (we don’t really know whose cabin it was, they don’t say.) -On Sam and John being similar, I think they could have been, Sam can get really obsessed. We see some of that at the end of Mystery Spot, when he spends 6 months obsessively hunting the Trickster after the last Wednesday when Dean is shot and killed. But like Dean said about Sam vs the other psychic kids going dark side, Sam has something they (and John) never had. Sam has his brother Dean to keep him balanced 😄 they keep each other in check. -It was so much fun rewatching s1 with you. Like I said it hit me much harder on rewatches when we know little things to watch out for and character points that add more nuance. So it’s awesome to see you gather all these details and sharing your thoughts. Thank you so much! 😄

MidnightSilver

I definitely agree that Meg won salvation and I think in certain episodes it should definitely be a possibility for the bad guy to win
