Video: Up close with F1's onboard cameras
Added 2025-08-06 15:00:14 +0000 UTCOnboard footage is probably the very best visual part of F1's television coverage - and the cameras behind it are incredible, highly developed pieces of technology.
Recently, our own Samarth Kanal got to see F1's broadcast command centre at Biggin Hill - and have this chat with Dino Leone, the head of F1's onboard camera operations.
Apart from Dino's fascinating explanation of the cameras and how that - and all the other data - is transmitted from the cars, look out for a relic of Zhou Guanyu's massive Silverstone shunt in 2022.

Iβd love to know why F1 doesnβt used a centrally mounted T-Cam. I really dislike that itβs offset to the left slightly. Indycar manage it so would be good to understand the reasons for it.

2025-08-06 17:01:13 +0000 UTCVery cool to see how the sausage is made! Would be even cooler to hear how you pros digest the end product: I suppose I should get off the metaphor before it's too late π¬ hearing and seeing what you look for in onboards to analyze car performance would be absolutely fascinating!
