How the new Cadillac F1 team will really work (ad free)

It took an astonishing 764 days from the entry process opening to Cadillac being granted its place as Formula 1’s 11th team for 2026. That was finally confirmed on March 8th, 2025 - just 364 days before the first race of next year in Australia. With so much focus, for so long, on the political battles over the entry of the team that started life as Andretti Formula Racing, before General Motors got involved and rebranded it Cadillac, the nuts and bolts of the team haven’t been discussed in public a great deal. The Race had the chance to visit the new team’s Silverstone facility and hear from team principal Graeme Lowdon to understand more about the surprising amount of work that has already been done and exactly what to expect from the first start-up F1 team to join the grid since Haas in 2016.

how is not having any driver on their books at this point in the season going to effect car development? surely having the feedback from putting an ex f1 driver in the simulator would be extremely valuable for a completely new team

I would like an American driver too...eventually. But I don't want them to have the seat because they are American - only if they are American and actually the best available driver (or, debatably, ONE of the best drivers available). F1 is too big and there is too much money involved to have a driver who isn't one of the best. Right now, I don't see anyone who fits that bill. I also think that for a new team, you want experience. Everyone is going to be learning and having an experienced hand behind the wheel is going to be a big benefit. Sure, Logan Sargeant has almost two seasons' of experience but does anyone want him in one of the Cadillac seats? I don't. I'd go for some combination of Bottas/Perez/Zhou/Drugovich/Schumacher/Tsunoda. Is Jak Crawford from F2 ready? I don't think he is at this time. Pato O'Ward or Alex Palou could be good candidates potentially - perhaps more risk but also maybe more upside than a few of the others.

Being an American I'm beyond words excited. An American team finally, HAAS has never counted in my book tbh. I just hope they keep their word of an American driver as well. I don't care if it's an Indy driver or NASCAR as long as that flag is American next to their name. Whether it's Perez or Bottas as a 2nd makes no difference to me. I just want an American driver and team.
