Edd and Samarth discuss the key F1 British GP qualifying talking points - In-car insights

Comments

Hi Edd, wanted to wait until I'd finished the whole weekend to comment. The good: overall very well organised (with one notable exception) and a big shout out to the Race Makers who are genuinely knowledgeable and great to chat to. Even just the nice little "see you tomorrow" comments as you leave at the gate all add to the positive feeling. I was told bad things about queueing, but I've had a lot worse at smaller events. Bear in mind I went early (around 6:30) and left later every day. While it’s “holiday expensive” you do get a lot for your money (eg: museum, main stage, driver walk ins etc.) The middling: Toilet chat (sorry haha.) You could see the teams working to keep them topped up with loo roll and hand wash, and as clean as possible. But given the way the event has exploded, they need a bit of an upgrade. I found that sometimes there’d be queues and they wouldn’t be in great shape but if you walked 15 mins to the next block there was no queue and it wasn’t too bad. Given the queues between sessions, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to ask for more of them to make it a more comfortable experience for the money. I also heard a few grumbles about the way certain areas (Landostand/Stowe etc) are now locked in tickets for the weekend, which stops people roving into as many different places on Friday and especially Saturday for quali. The bad: The track walk at the end. Sadly, this was a let-down in the way it was handled, which was odd given how good the organisation was overall. We were told to go to Vale, and each Vale attendant said to go to the next gate. This carried on until we got to Stowe. The issue here is you have a lot of people in a very small area crammed in behind a narrow access road, so the crowd was too big for the space. It wouldn’t have taken much for that to become a real problem, and I assume this wasn't their intent. Silverstone should really look at this because Vale bank is a wide open space which is perfect for letting thousands of people onto the track. And yet they somehow pushed everyone into one of the smallest places on the circuit. Slightly baffling. Some random thoughts from a first timer at the GP itself. 🙂

Ooooh, Samarth's prediction was right (assuming Oscar wins)
