Deconstructing Norris's 2025 struggles + Austria preview (ad-free)

We delve into the reasons why Lando Norris has gone from title favourite to very much second-best to McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in 2025 in the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.

Scott Mitchell and Mark Hughes join Edd Straw to run through the four reasons why Norris has fallen behind and discuss whether these trends will continue or can be changed.

We also answer a batch of questions from The Race Members’ Club on Norris versus Piastri, including asking whether the latter has got the mental battle won.

In the final part of the podcast, we look ahead to the Austrian Grand Prix and assess the chances of Red Bull, Mercedes or even Ferrari threatening favourite McLaren.

This is a very accurate summary!

Edd Straw

I do enjoy Edd. Ask him any question about "who finished 12th in the 1991 Phoenix GP" and he instantly knows the answer (and they didn't finish but were classified). "Is this weekend a sprint race" completely foxes him.

Simon Emms

“If if if if if if if.” The coddling of Norris is getting quite tiresome. They’ve even convinced themselves that he didn’t throw the title away in ‘24, when it is statistical fact that he did. All for the sake of defending the oxymoronic theory that vulnerability in a fight is a good thing.
