What's good - and bad - about F1: The Movie (ad-free)

On this episode Edd Straw and Jon Noble review F1: The Movie having watched the film in a media screening during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. They discuss what they liked and what they didn't, plus debate how well it works both for F1 and movie fans.

Is Brad Pitt too old to convince as an F1 driver? How spectacular are the racing scenes? Does the movie make sense? We answer all of those questions and more.

We also hear from the film's legendary producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, who tells Scott Mitchell-Malm how he and director Joseph Kosinski went about making the movie, and what their objectives were.

I watched the movie last night and saved this podcast for after, and I’m glad I did!! I really fall more in line with Jon than Ed on this. I really enjoyed it, loved seeing the cameos by team principals, drivers, journalists, and especially Roscoe! I did have to suspend disbelief in a lot of areas, but it was fun and I enjoyed it right to the end without checking my watch (even though it was very late in the evening for me lol). I think they tried to walk a fine line between explaining for non Motorsport people and leaving room for fans to find meaning in the action, and I had such a giggle at the role tires played in the last race as it was so fresh from benefiting Hulkenberg earlier this season!

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Monza! Absolutely diabolical that was😂 pissing it down on slick tyres against other cars on wets… I can’t even with that. Also, the dialogue and whole concept about not having straight line speed and having to build a car for ‘combat’ was hilarious, and then they go and try to win Monza which is basically straight lines😂 I genuinely thought this movie was a comedy by the end! The fact Toto offered him a seat at the end after crashing himself and a Mercedes out the race whilst fighting for the win was the cherry on top😂 I went in ready to take it with a bit of salt and the visuals were impressive m but for me there’s just so much absurd behaviour and decision making that was just laughable to be honest! Still worth a watch though, the insight into the wind tunnel and computer systems was fascinating!
