Chucky lol. Also Grima Wormtongue in The LotR. Lots and lots of other stuff too.

I like what you said about a moral compass not requiring faith in something - other than oneself. The opposite though, is true. One can have tons of faith in whatever they consider a higher Power, yet have no moral compass - or a broken one.

I love that JMS will present something (mind-wipe) as an alternative to current solutions (execution/life imprisonment), but he’s not afraid to turn around and deconstruct it either.

I miss this kind of sci-fi a lot that can really raise interesting questions and make us ponder such big moral issues. I also really miss writing this good on television.

One of favourite episodes as it does what si-fi does best using future to ask questions and provoke thoughts. Justice, revenge and atonement.

It would be cool if Edward's journey was what the mindwipe program was intended to be. Like do the mindwipe then send them to a monastery for nine years as this new person where they'd study introspection, silence, and service. The point would be to give a monster humanity. And when they're human again, slowly give them all their memories back. Not to torture them with their past. But to let them use that newfound humanity to take responsibility for, and ownership of, the monster. So it's more - this past is something you have to bear, now go do good with it. All in all though, the mindwipe stories are science fiction at its best - A story about new tech with profound moral and philosophical complications. LOVE IT. And I love that they bring these things back - like the life force device that helped Garibaldi. It was so interseting to see John's response. He only saw Edward as his friend/some innocent monk, and as the victim. I feel like him and Delenn are kind of made for each other. Love the show, so cool to rewatch after years and hear your thoughts. You always mention stuff I never considered.

A very appropriate episode for Easter weekend!
