Why Audi is already talking its new F1 team down [ad-free]

After Audi announced it would enter Formula 1 as a full works operation, after buying into the Sauber team, everyone expected it to be ready to arrive on the grid in 2026 with a big bang. But with its F1 arrival now just nine months away, the German manufacturer is adopting a cautious tone and talking in terms of expectation management.

Im honestly most excited for Audi's livery reveal. I hope they stick to something close to what is on their display car. The orange and graphite is such a great look, i hope they keep it

Talking things down is reasonable. Nobody should be coming in like Craig Pollock/BAR and saying they will win their first race, that's just stupidity.

Bingo! They are going to sell. Audi won’t be in F1 in 10 years. And probably not even in 5.

Who are these "everyones" who exepected Audi to arrive with a big bang? Audi may have talked up their chances, but anyone with a bit of knowledge of F1 (and geography) would know they would be years from success. Swiss-based team? New PU entant? Possible/likely heavy-handed corporate oversight? It was always *obvious* that Audi would struggle for years, if not forever (until they sell out entirely to the Middle East investors).
