Lewis Hamilton's troubling doubt over his unsustainable Ferrari F1 form [ad-free]

Lewis Hamilton's current form is becoming increasingly unsustainable for himself, Ferrari and Formula 1. We’re nine races into Hamilton’s dream Ferrari switch, and it’s been a real rollercoaster of emotions that’s veered from immense joy to utter dejection.

I wonder if he is more dejected because he hoped the Ferrari car concept would suit him better than the Mercedes, and now it seems to net be, he realises he is in big trouble?

It's sad to watch the decline, but Lewis is done. Everyone ages out, it's inevitable. He might have some bright moments but his sustained peaks are in the rearview mirror now. For his mental sake I hope he can stabilize his performance and not end his career on a low note. It can't be much fun to feel everything slipping away (as it has been for a few years now) when you used to be on top of the world.

This is the problem though, is it not? He's 40 this yr, and this is is 19th season in F1. He has a great track record, yes. But, like many others, how now risks tarnishing that by staying beyond his years, like Rossi in MotoGP. Drivers imo are staying far (too) long these days. When you compare other multiple world champions from the last 40 years: Piquet - 13 yrs (78-91) Prost - 13 years (80-93) Schumacher - 15 yrs (91-06). Not counting his comeback when he didnt do much. Hakkinen - 10yrs (91-01) Especially these days, with the cars being so technical and having individual characteristics that drivers switching from a team that has run a different concept have rarely adapted to, it's unlikely to change. I personally, would rather see more opportunities given to young blood. Lets not forget that Oscar Piastri, amongst others, very nearly didn't get into F1 and even after winning the GP3 and GP2 title in his debut seasons, had to resort to a season of testing. Of course, it's not just drivers staying in the sport for longer now that is the cause of it, but it is a portion of it.

Such a shame to see a driver with such an incredible track record ebb away over the last few years. Hopefully the next rule cycle will give him some of his mojo back…

Crazy to think that people are saying his struggling to adapt and damaging his legacy when in this era of cars he has 2 race victories, a sprint victory, finished third in the standings and was best of rest outside of red Bull in 2023. Just shows you the standards he has set

Agree great overview, and as a huge Hamilton fan from when he joined the sport in 2007 I’m sorry to say it, but maybe he should should consider retiring before he does some serious damage to his legacy. Its painfully obvious he is struggling to adapt.

Great overview
