Why Red Bull suddenly has a new 2026 dilemma [ad-free video]

Red Bull's already changed Max Verstappen's F1 team-mate once this season but is now starting to think another driver is actually quicker.

In fact, the rookie Red Bull took on for 2025 (who only really got a shot because it had nobody else ready) has been so impressive that, alongside Yuki Tsunoda struggling to build on a reasonably encouraging start, he's now emerging as Red Bull's favoured choice long term.

Our latest video, available ad-free on Patreon, looks at the 2026 dilemma Red Bull now has on its hands.

I wonder if Red Bull has reached the point where they regret passing on Carlos? Of all the drivers on the grid, I think he was their best shot at someone who could eventually master the car. I don't think there's another driver out there with so much experience and tenacity when it comes to taming difficult rides. I still don't get why they looked past that.

At this point RB need to acknowledge that this is not a driver problem - this article could have been written anytime In the last 5 years - they have cultural problems with how they treat drivers

Red Bull/Marko have been vocal that they support Yuki and that the car is the problem, not him. Sure, Hadjar is amazing in the Racing Bulls. Yuki outperformed Hadjar in the first two races in the Racing Bull. Lawson is even getting his confidence back in the Racing Bulls. The story here is more about how specific and difficult the Red Bull is to drive, not how bad or good any of their drivers are. The Racing Bulls car is a Sunday walk compared to operating the Red Bull.

I have a question that i'll hope you'll answer at some point. We have all seen how Red Bull cam turn around a dog of a car on Friday and arrive on Saturday after hours of data analysis and sim work with a new set up that puts max right in the mix. Do they do this for the 2nd driver? We often see yuki close to max on Fridays only to fall behind. Could this be the reason why? I'm not on a Max witch hunt. Just curious.

This seems a car only Max can drive. I hope they leave Hadjar alone and don't undermine his confidence and potentially ruin his career.

The Racing Bulls is an easy car to drive and set-up, which at least is partially the reason why Hadja looks so good. I think he is also quite talented, but if they'd throw him into the diva that Red Bull is, he will fail. I hope he can stay at RB and eventually be signed by some other team in some years. I am by now convinced that driving for Red Bull kills or at least stalls almost any drivers career.

The issue is I think Red Bull promotes too early. Even a hugely experienced hand like Perez eventually faltered with the car. If they get a Vettel/Verstappen esque talent, then that is going to disrupt the current status quo.
