Spanish Grand Prix race review (ad-free)

Edd Straw is joined by Jon Noble and Mark Hughes to review the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, in which Max Verstappen's frustrations boiled over as Oscar Piastri led home Lando Norris for a commanding McLaren one-two.

Edd, Jon and Mark weigh in on Verstappen's controversial clash with George Russell, explain why the new flexi-wing directive did nothing to dent McLaren's dominance, discuss Nico Hulkenberg's stunning turn of form for Sauber, and much more.

Plus, there's the usual batch of questions from The Race Members' Club to tackle.

Yeah, that is correct and I should have mentioned that. However, I was only thinking in terms of comms between driver and team while out on track. But once the umbilical is in, it goes private - hence often there's talk over the radio when on track that they'll talk about something once back in the garage!

I don’t know what Verstappen has to do to get criticised on this podcast. I’d list everything he’s done in the last year but all you have to do is read his penalty points rap sheet. If a driver lower down the order had a similar record their place in the sport would be questioned. Max’s on track incidents are always justified on the pod as being due to ‘his interpretation of the rules’, or being ‘on the limit’ or in this case, simply because he’s frustrated. That doesn’t make his actions ok. He collided with Russell in anger not knowing what the results would be, simply to make a point, as is repeatedly his way. One of these days he’ll hospitalise someone else or himself. I’m sure it isn’t the case as the Race chaps seem to have good journalistic integrity, but I wonder if some of the half-hearted criticism in much of the media is due to Red Bull and Max’s tactic of not engaging with critical channels. They have to go into the mixer with Max after all.

I thought that driver-to-pit comms were ‘secret’ when the car’s pulled into the garage and the umbilical is plugged in. No?
