The senator is a quite underused character, but he's mentioned sometimes I think. For example in ascension, when Mulder tries to contact him, and Mr X tells him, that he's not available. Several times it's mentioned, that Mulder has supporters in congress. I think Marita Covarrubias also told Mulder that the senator isn't available in Herrenvolk. Not sure.

I truly enjoyed this. Not only one of my favorite episodes, but a fantastic reaction video, one of your better ones (IMO) for sure. They intentionally put actor Nicholas Lea at the end credits so that people wouldn't know at the beginning that it's Krycek. Truth be told, when I watched this episode originally, I had a spoiler and I knew that it's Krycek, but if I had not known - keep in mind these were NOT in high definition at the time - I'm not sure if I could've figured it out as quickly as Shelley did. Yes, Skinner has nanobots in him and he's now unfortunately compromised. What impacts this could have for the future of the series I will of course not reveal due to spoilers. Another interesting thing about this episode is that it really tries to make it convincing at the beginning, both prior and after the episode titles, that Skinner really dies... so it keeps you (unless you had spoilers) at the edge of your seat, to see if there's any chance at all he can be saved / revived. Speaking of Krycek and what/who he is as a person... back in the day during the original series' airing, there were plenty of Krycek sympathizers who made excuses for him that he's misunderstood, not really that bad, etc., but those people were mostly laughed at, as mean as that sounds. I mean come on... just look at him torturing this doctor here for no reason strapped to a table, when he could just put him out of his misery with a gunshot. Not to mention all the harm he's caused from the beginning of the series (starting in season two) until now, the list is huge. Krycek is an evil man. He's very resourceful, intelligent, plays on "all sides", anything to suit his interests, but still a terrible human being. Nonetheless, as a character, he's extremely enjoyable to watch, and I think I speak for the majority of fans when I say that. An evil POS, but a very enjoyable, well written, well implemented, and well acted character. It is logical for Skinner not to tell Mulder and Scully he's recognizing Krycek on those pictures, because he doesn't know in which way he's being followed / listened to. For all he knows, his office could be bugged, or there might even be something allowing the technology to record his voice and transmit it to Krycek. So he's just doing the best he can, because he's afraid. Whether Mulder and Scully recognized Krycek in those photos? This is unclear. Mulder tells Skinner that he has a reason to believe who may be behind all this, but it's not certain if Mulder is thinking of Krycek or Senator Matheson at that point. And Scully doesn't seem to have a clue who is in the photos, which is odd... seeing how she recognizes Kenneth Orgel, but not one of their mortal enemies who is pretty recognizable in those surveillance photos despite the wig and beard. So it's unclear of Mulder and Scully recognized him, but if they didn't, it's a blunder, and it's the only thing that has bothered me about this episode that I otherwise think is spectacular. Anyway, really glad you liked it! PS: To jog your memory, Senator Matheson was in season two "Little Green Men" and season three "Nisei". This episode doesn't directly imply that he's bad, but Mulder at this point thinks he is.
