Max Is lashing out because he knows he is not winning the race that is why he ran into some of the racers

The radio messages were really revealing. There was an arguement between Verstappen and the pit wall which climaxed at the collision. I think the seed of frustration began with driving into the Bearman/Lawson battle (though to his benefit in closing the gap with Norris.) Put on Hards and told that's all they had left. And in quick succession: slides into the the race restart, bumps with Laclerc on the straight, bumps with Russell in T1, fusses about the Laclerc bump and told to calm down, THEN told to give the position back to Russell.... Objectively, that is a lot.

I wasn't keen on the Red Bull radio messages at the time, telling him he had to give the place back to George Russell because "it's the rules", one of those where it is claimed that the rules clearly say something when in reality they don't. So I can certainly understand him being riled up, but I think he probably did deliberately drive into George Russell and that it was a particularly poor way of acting upon that frustration. I think Max has plenty in common with Michael Schumacher, with his brilliance, his way of setting up the car that is tough for his team mates, and some of his questionable on-track tactics. I'm also reminded of a more clear/blatant instance where Sebastian Vettel drove into Lewis Hamilton during a similar loss of emotional control. I think the punishment was fair, for although the 10 seconds wasn't a lot, the 3 penalty points putting him on the brink of a race ban means he has to beware of "losing it" and acting it out to that extent again.

It boggles my mind why the team asked Max to give that place back. He clearly took a knock from George. It makes his actions after explainable, if not excusable

Have to agree man.. it was 100% deliberate. Max knows he ain't winning this year, so he is lashing out

John

Make the cars more fragile. They would be lighter and we would not have to worry about dive bombs or touches.

Julien

The notion that Max may reflect on what happened and show anything like contrition, is just absurd. You need to take the Verstappen branded rose coloured glasses off.

Kevin Henderson

Interesting to hear Jon’s opinion that Max has unease with current overtaking/driving guidelines….isn’t it Max’s driving that has resulted in these ridiculous rules?

Drewface

I genuinely cannot understand why Jon would say he can't believe Max would deliberately drive into someone. He did and he's done it before as well. Call it out for what it is. It's absolutely appalling and not befitting of a world champion
