I love the scene in the car with Sam and Rowena, I personally don't ship them as I see them more as a friendship with weirdly motherly vibes coming from Rowena at times, but I absolutely adore their friendship. I love that Sam finally opened up a little about his own Lucifer trauma as we never really get to see him talk about it. Of course, the only reason he did it was to try helping Rowena, and that is very Sam. But at least he finally opened up a little. Plus, I think he felt kinda safe to do so as he knew Rowena could understand. No one else can understand the fear that seeing Lucifer's true face causes. Like, of course Cas would've seen it, but he's an Angel and so it's not got the same effect on him as it does them. And Rowena's right, it really does feel like reminiscing over an abusive relationship when they talk about him. They literally sound like survivors of SA and/or an abusive relationship. I mean, Sam and Lucifer's relationship has ALWAYS given those vibes, but they really leaned into it there with that conversation... It really does just add onto the uncomfortableness of them, and makes me sadder and sadder every time Lucifer returns after they think they've defeated him.

Rowena's response to learning about Crowley is really well done. Sam and Rowena talking about how they’ve seen Lucifer's true face is so meaningful, and I’m glad she provides an opportunity for Sam to talk about what he’s been through.

I also love the scene with Sam and Rowena. i can't figure out when Sam ripped the page out, but I appreciate that he did it for her.

It's one of the things I genuinely love about her: she is one of the most Machiavelian and methodical and brilliant characters in the show (after our dear boy, Crowley, of course) and they just kinda let her go and do her thing? And I love it?!?? Yeah, no notes - I love this episode for her haha One of my favorite moments was Cas telling Lucifer about how wonderful Jack is. It gives us the opportunity to see just how much Cas has learned about Jack already and how proud he is of him. Dad!Cas is my favorite Cas :'3 Also yeah, fully agree, the way Rowena had them kill each other was one of the nastier ways we've seen somebody go in the whole series. Ick. Heeheeeeee - I totally feel you about the Sam and Rowena stuff. Their scenes in this episode were just! so! good! They're typically known as Samwitch or Samwena hehe

This is one of those SPN episodes that i absolutely love and is full of great moments but doesn't immediately come to mind when i think of my fave eps. It genuinely is so good. so many family parallels that are very rich. the parallels as well with dean and sam - how dean didn't believe in "a damn thing" for the first 5ish episodes and sam was keeping the faith and now that sam is feeling helpless and dean has hope back! i do love sam giving rowena the pages and trying to get dean to understand. the comedic parts of this episode are GOLD as well. jensens physical comedy is amazing but his comedic timing on dialogue is what always gets me :) hilarious!

There is NO way the writers weren't very aware of that language choice and it being a nod to the whole "is Dean bi" question. I even brought that line up in my response comment to Sharon before you posted this. Lol. I also looove Samwena. Such a good ship. Rowena is such a badass. I love her so much and am thrilled she is back.💜. And I totally agree with you, Shelley, that Jensen nails these comedic scenes. Dean under the love spell was freaking hilarious.😆🤣

Rowena does explain what the spell is for in this episode in the first scene at the bunker, the grand coven had put limitations (binding) on Rowena's magic coz they believed she was too dangerous and that spell was for breaking those chains they put on her so she could be the strongest version of herself like she once was long time ago, unleashing her full potentials so that if lucifer came back or she ever had another encounter with him, she would be prepared so yes her motivation is to protect herself but the spell gives her way too much power for dean's comfort understandably, Rowena is one of the most powerful witches they encountered, can you imagine her being even more powerful?, that shot in the dark with her eyes glowing purple is sick!!!! I loved it, she's so OP & badass & glamorous!!!!! I love her so much! This episode directly ties into the episode regarding dean, both episodes have 2 evil witch siblings trying to use the Black Grimoire to resurrect a family member and both episodes have Rowena working with the winchesters in hopes of getting her hands on the Black Grimoire, the difference is that in regarding dean Sam doesn't give her the grimoire, she tried to take it but he took it from her, he didn't trust her with it, this episode he at least trusted her enough to give her a page, i love it when writers build on their colleagues work! Love that scene with Sam in the car bonding over lucifer trauma, he killed her not once but twice! Samwena is my second favorite ship in this show after destiel so yeah i love this episode, Sam always had a soft spot for "bad girls", i love that Sam gave her the page at the end, i loved when she came when Sam called to help him with amnesia dean last season, they have a soft spot for each other, which is amazing looking back at how they used to hate each other in season 10, they have a similar frienemy relationship as dean & Crowley had, anyway, fifth base is backdoor sex, the fact that Rowena asked dean about that then said "you poor sheltered boy, what's bye/bi? Is bye/bi" aaaaah, the fact that Sam didn't even flinch at dean telling him that he's in love and was like "oh are you? 😉" In a teasing way as if he wants to say "I've been knew" but only was alarmed when he said "she" aaaaaaaah, i also loved that cas got to stab lucifer and say "this is me learning from my mistakes", go off!!

And yes 'Samena or Samwena' is a real ship - I think this episode might have been the big factor in that. I love this episode, it has fun, seriousness and another loved character coming back to life, as well as some plot with Cas and Lucifer.
