Why F1's trying to ditch a core part of its 2026 rules [ad-free video]

A 50/50 engine split between electrical power and internal combustion is the core principle on which Formula 1's whole 2026 rules revolution hangs. But now F1's about to debate a proposal that significantly waters that concept down.

Here's Jon to explain it all in our latest video, and you can get Edd's pretty unimpressed take on the situation on The Race website.

These regulations seem like they are hanging over the sport. I really hope they don’t end up being a disaster but the strange engine setup that has necessitated the active aero really seems to be a shed covered with sticky plasters

Really seems like there is a bit of panic going on now. Everyone is just scrambling to make it less bad and then somehow try to make it through the next years and bin the regulations as quickly as possible. What a shame. F1 is really successful at the moment, but those regs are a real risk to the viewing experience and I am not sure DTS hype and oil money can carry the sport long term.
