Who is really quickest? Mark Hughes' early Australian GP analysis
Added 2025-03-14 08:46:50 +0000 UTCFerrari topped the times - but who was really quickest on F1 2025's first proper day at the Australian Grand Prix.
Fresh from crunching the practice race simulation numbers, we asked our man on the ground Mark Hughes for his take, exclusively for Patreon.
Below you'll find Mark's FP2 race sim data, watch the video to understand it better.

Hi Joanna. That is accurate, yes. The averages are just the times actually set, without any adjustment for circumstances (other than not counting cool-down or incident laps). There are far too many variables (PU modes, fuel load, timing of runs etc) to try to put numbers on the variables. So the more context you have, yes the better you can interpret those averages.

2025-03-14 21:00:38 +0000 UTCGreat Video Mark! My issue with the really quick laps on the Ferrari was that while watching the live timing, you could see that Leclerc was using DRS throughout the last part of the stint, while Norris never used it. The DRS was used on the 2 fastest times on Leclerc's run that was not the last lap (so somewhere in the middle of his stint, a 1.21.6 and 1.21.2 respectively) McLaren also seemed to be insistent on sticking behind Antonelli for unknown reasons, while Leclerc was interested in moving away from Verstappen. (and took a slow lap in the middle of the run to do that)

2025-03-14 09:07:42 +0000 UTCThank you Mark. I have a question. I always Watch the live timing and track position on the Longruns and Norris was relatively close to Antonelli for most of his laps. Do you take these things into consideration? And Charles last two laps were behind Max and considerable slower, so where they counted out for the average? I really like the live Updates, Thanks to the whole Team!
