Piastri signs new McLaren deal - but will his team be the one to beat in Australia? (ad-free)

We look ahead to the Australian Grand Prix, and discuss home hero Oscar Piastri’s new McLaren deal, in the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.

Scott Mitchell-Malm and Samarth Kanal join Edd Straw in Melbourne on the eve of the season to look ahead to what should be a dramatic weekend.

We reflect on how PIastri’s deal impacts the driver-market landscape and what it says about McLaren approach to drivers.

The challenge of Albert Park and the question of how seriously we should take Max Verstappen’s downbeat predictions seriously.

We also answer another batch of listener questions, which includes a look at whether Ferrari might favour Charles Leclerc over Lewis Hamilton, the chances of the 2025 champion not winning the most races and how strongly testing pace correlates with final championship position.

I thought - for a moment that Edd was about to get on his Soapbox to explain he wasn't on his Soapbox. I had the exact same problem last year flying Air New Zealand from Auckland to Adelaide via Melbourne. We left Auckland 15 mins late, and having free WiFi on the plane I discovered my connecting flight had been changed "because we left Auckland" late. Didn't matter we arrived in Melbourne 10 mins ahead of schedule, I had to wait an additional 2.5 hours for the 1 hour flight home.

Lol. It's Melbourne. There's always every chance of rain. Or heat, or whatever else you might not expect.

Melbourne always has a full support schedule. Full Thursday running of supports. Love it.
