BBV10s Debrief: Prost/Ligier in 1992

The Bring Back V10s Debrief is back! After a brief pause while annoying things like F1 car launches and testing got in the way, Glenn Freeman returns to the hot seat to work through another superb back of comments, observations and questions in response to our recent episode on Alain Prost's dalliance with Ligier in early 1992.

BBV10s Debrief: Prost/Ligier in 1992

Comments

Senna+McLaren seemed inspired by Prost in 92 by doing the same 'will he/won't he' act although he actually raced for them!

James Atkinson

Brilliant debrief, loved this format!

Jamie Willis

Actually, it’s the 80´s that saw the most successful and most world champion material from France: Prost, Pironi and Arnoux. I think it came and went with Elf.

Richard Lehoux

Meant to write that in the Call-for-Question, but now posting ist here: Ligier in 1992 was sixth fastest at around 4.5 percent slower than the Williams, right behind Lotus, but comfortably ahead of the rest. Just to add some relation: The 2024 Sauber, who we all agree was a bit shables, was the slowest in the field at TWO PERCENT slower. The pace differences were RIDICULOUS back then.

Liked having Ed help go through the questions

Andrew Minchin

If renault goes with Ligier 1992 what does bentton do in 1995 stick with ford

Andy Barber

Love this and always love a podcast with Ed!

I listened to this rather than watched and K.N.E.W that Glenn’s magic would have involved some first class acting from Edd, have watched now and am pleased to see I was correct. Have you ever considered doing Panto?

Chris Parrott

Seeing as they don’t even have a French engine soon that story walkways felt weak

Kieron Holden

In terms of potential French F1 champions, Didier Pironi in 82 if he doesn't have his Hockenheim crash?

Graeme Marsden

Great stuff team. Lovely to hear from Edd too. I think the informal nature of the format works really well. Maybe as a one off u could try a live de-brief like the post testing episodes that u then put out later?

Chris Parrott

Like the 2 man show. Don't like the 50 year old dream of a French super team still coughing and spluttering about when Gasley joined Alpine to make that all French and like the rest of then. Failed

I actually think Mansell’s reputation is enhanced by him winning the Indy title in 1993 vs being a two time world champion. Prost gets very little credit for winning in the 93 Williams and the same would have been true for mansell. Proving you can win in a completely different format of racing shows a more complete skill set.

The shape and livery match for the Porsche

Nicholas Langdon

Surmising the painting behind Edd is of the 1969 Le Mans 24 Hour finish (looks like the Herrmann 908 chasing after the Ickx GT40)

Stuart Coulter

No amount of Edd talking 90s F1 is too much Edd talking 90s F1

Disc Infiltrator

Debriefs have officially reached the length of an episode... AND I'M HERE FOR IT!!!! Yeahhh

Marios Gantzoudis

Missed an opportunity for a picture of Jacques Villeneuve to appear when Glenn clicked his fingers

Lewis Brumby

I'm with Edd - French superteam and/or Larrouse should be in every episode.
