Video: More trackside insight from F1 testing

With the first pre-season test session of F1 2025 done, Scott's back with more of what he's seen of the cars' behaviour and drivers' approaches while watching from trackside at Sakhir through the morning - this time in video form as he walks back to the paddock!

Hehe. Nice :)

Hi Vin, I just noticed it from the coverage on the live broadcast when they cut to onboard laps of the VCARB.

Will Witchell

Will may I ask how you're viewing onboards? I'm not seeing the option on F1 TV. Or are you using MultiViewer?

Vin Narayan

Thanks Andre! Not sure if they run CFDs based on what happens on track? I thought that would be more for testing specific scenarios wind-tunnel style. We deal with fluid sim data in visual effects, have a rough idea, but that number seemed incredible.

Alex Frenklakh

To put into perspective, Ive done my phd o large scale data analysis at CERN and that value is 1M times larger than the data all experiments combined produced in a year

André Pereira

I work in HPC supercomputing, which large data analysis and CFD is a small subset of the applications that my team de als with. I can as sure you that claim is false...

André Pereira

Great video Scott, what are the impressions of the VCARB? From the onboards it looks a little tricky to drive and Hadjar had his little spin on the exit of T4 not too long ago. Is there anything around it that perhaps looks RB19/20 ish aswell?

Will Witchell

Rain forecast... now who was making fun of Haas? ;) ;)

Mr. H.

Just heard a figure of 1.5billion terabytes of data coming off the car per session (F1 tv) Can this be true? Seems like… a lot.

Alex Frenklakh

First feeling was a little underwhelming, didn’t have a strong front end at Turn 10 and Edd noticed weak traction elsewhere. But got tidier as the day went on and seems like the team made a better step with set-up

Scott Mitchell-Malm

Supposedly the investment remains the same but year-on-year rates have increased so has therefore dropped in prominence

Scott Mitchell-Malm

Yep, spot on.

Michael Holden

Offshore Jim cutting back all ineos sponsorship, eg sailing team, cutting back on cycling team, to chuck more in the never ending hole that is Man united is my guess 🤣

Robin M

Thanks Scott! I know that it‘s been repeatedly the most underwhelming (and thus under the radar) team but I‘d be keen on hearing your opinion on the Sauber later today~

Daniel Aeschbacher

Why has the red Ineos gone from the Mercedes car? Are there any issues with the joint ownership?
