Is Verstappen switching to Aston Martin inevitable? (ad-free)

Amid the talk of Max Verstappen heading to Aston Martin in 2026, we address the rumours in the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.

In a follow-up recording to the live shows we recently staged in London and Birmingham, we tackle some of the vast number of questions we received from the audience - including one about the reigning world champion’s future.

We also discuss other aspects of Aston Martin’s rise, including the influence of Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell over driver decisions and Lance Stroll’s future.

Other topics include how Lewis Hamilton will handle Ferrari politics, why Red Bull eschewed Carlos Sainz and whether Andrea Stella could have had the same impact on Alpine as he has on McLaren.

We also ask how clearcut the decision was for Gabriel Bortoleto to sign for Sauber, what qualifies as success for Audi, the reasons for the expected increased field spread under the new regulations next year and much more.

I would love a show in Cardiff if you guys ever fancy a trip to South Wales! What are your thoughts on the Max vs George ‘spiciness’ from the end of last season. Do you think there is still something there between them or will they have moved on? I’m not sure we saw them really battle it out on track after Qatar so maybe one to look out for in ‘25.

I honestly don't like the sprint races. I feel like they water down the sport, and are another way for F1 and the teams to charge even more money.

Would love a show at the philharmonic in Liverpool or Manchester:)

Regarding Piastri needing to improve his quali form, are we talking consistency? He disappeared a few times for sure. As far as speed, I think Norris is criminally underrated in the area of quali. I think he’s at least as good as Max and could be a good as Charles. Change my mind.

Such an enjoyable pod. Edd, Scott and Mark all in fine form. Though I do think you’ve missed a trick not calling the episode “What’s the opposite of an underdog?” (or similar).
