🚨 2015 revisited: Qatar - The start of the future? (Round 1)

We begin our return to the 2015 MotoGP season with a surprise-packed season-opening Qatar Grand Prix.

This was the start of Ducati’s progress from embarrassment to domination, but not quite the start to Marc Marquez's latest title defence that anyone expected.

Throw in a resurgent Valentino Rossi and strange problems for Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa and there is immediately plenty to reminisce about - or experience for the first time.

Simon Patterson, Val Khorounzhiy, Megan White and Matt Beer set the scene by discussing where they were in their lives and careers in 2015 and how they experienced that epic MotoGP season, then get on with debating the on-track action from an intriguing opener.

They weren't underdogs they weren't in contention. Incidentally they poached Gigi from Aprilia who were in Superbikes. Melandri didn't want to ride the Aprilia in MGP because there was no chance of winning

Hi, I just got around to listening to the episode so I am a little late to the party. Really loved the personal insights, this pod is one of the reasons I signed up for TR in December and it was worth it. I did not watch MotoGP in 2015 so this is a new experience for me. I also am trying to catch as many races as I can on Youtube etc. but not all of them are there, so I am also reading up on races I cannot watch. So if I may add some constructive criticism: I would have loved some more quick context setting on how the previous season(s) went for the main dogs (the factory Honda, Yamaha & Ducati guys). You touched on it but had I not prepared I would not have known who was racing where necessarily and how they were expected to perform in that season. Also - and that could just have been me not paying enough attention - I could not fully follow the "race story". I think it was because you sprinkled a lot of personal stories or observations throughout, which was great but when it came to "Dovi was most likely to win some laps from the finish" I found myself a little confused as to what had happened so far at the front and how the Rossi/Dove battle played out specifically. Anyways, I just wanted to leave this here. Keep up the great work! I look forward to the coming episodes.

It's so wild to to see the camera cut to ducati's box where Gigi Dall'igna and Domenicali are the absolute underdogs of the championship!!

This is my first time seeing 2015. And what a great race to start off. The bikes look so much nicer without all the aero and the Yamaha livery is lovely looking. And the race start requires actual skill instead of ride height devices. I also really appreciated seeing two different manufacturers duking it out to see the strengths and weaknesses. I’m definitely looking forward to following along this season.

Forza Rossi As I remember it I didn't expect Rossi to win in the first race. Good racing ... before aero, ride height and V4 tyres ;)

I really enjoyed this episode, especially that Simon and Val weren't following professionally or incidentally and it wasn't on Megan's radar yet. It's a fascinating difference compared to the more personal historical reflections of the BBV10 team in their 1997 race series, and I'm all four this revisit of an amazing MotoGP season. Hope you all have fun with this year, I have an excuse to re-watch the races now!

Simon drives around Europe in something not unlike the mystery machine. Coincidence? Surely not…

I've been listening to the Race for a couple of years now. I had images In my head of what each one of you looked like. I had always pictured Val as a younger clean cut Bob Varsha, imagine my surprise when I first saw The Race on video and Val reminded me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo! Lol keep up the good work!
