Thank you for the rankings this season Edd, really appreciate the work you put into those and the way you engaged with the feedback on here! Looking at the graphic and considering what you said in this Q&A, it's kinda crazy that Stroll didn't have a single standout weekend all season. Pretty much everyone except Sargeant had at least one ranking where they did very well, even the stand-ins or the chronic underperformers like Zhou. All those people were essentially able to surpass Stroll in the seasonal standings with just a single good weekend where the finished #5 or #6 in your rankings. Uff. In regards to the overall system: I think I personally prefer the rating system over the rankings, even though those are still fine. You rightfully pointed out in a previous pod that you can run into a situation where there isn't enough separation between people with a rating system, and this is definitely a downside. However, one drawback that I see with the ranking system is that the rankings often end up rather closely aligned with the actual race results, which is a tad uninspired and boring. I'm wondering if your rankings approach of looking at a driver and placing him in comparison to the drivers you have already ranked, leads to unconciously letting the race results guide you a bit more than they should. If drivers were rated in more of a vacuum instead of being mainly compared to the people that finished around them, we might end up with a more accurate evaluation of their performance. A lot of that is just personal preference of course, but at least for me personally the rating-system made for a more enjoyable reading experience because it offered more of an ebb and flow of good and bad performances. This allowed for surprises all the way through the article, which I found more engaging than slowly working your way down from good to bad in a list that often times looks rather similar to the results of the race you just watched.

I love these, Edd, thank you very much!

Maybe a wobble here or there along the way, but I would 100% agree with the YE summary - so I think you're spot on with your methodology!

As an idea of compromise between rankings and ratings - would it be worth allowing draws? Youd still need to publish them in a certain order, so can have slight advantages represented - but then could have two drivers be "joint 3rd" etc.

Hi Edd, not sure if this is the place for this but would you consider doing a bonus version of these rankings just for subscribers if you do another bbv10 season revisited feature? I'd love to read where you placed the likes of Taki Inoue or Mauricio Gugelmin for each race, especially if someone could mock them up with the same graphics!

I still think it's mind boggling that you refer to a Verstappen P6 as a poor weekend. It seems that you are overpenalizing the incident with Piastri, which is fair. But does that knock him all the way down to 19th? That's why my question especifically referenced the ranking system. It seems you are holding him to a very high standard. I'll have to review past rankings but I don't think you've ranked Norris or Leclerc that low when having a similar weekend as Max had this race.

Great stuff Edd. I’m looking forward to the bonus bonus content in 2025 reviewing the review of the driver rankings
