One last time in 2024, this is the place to drop your podcast questions from F1's season finale weekend in Abu Dhabi.
As usual, Edd and the team will tackle a bunch in our post-race show, and we'll get to some more of them later on, as we always try to.
Thank you so much to everyone who has sent us questions over the course of this year. We'll try not to make you wait until the first race of next year to get another chance, so keep an eye out for more posts like this over the off-season!
Do you think the fanfare over Lewis' last race at Mercedes is indicative of a feeling that he may struggle next year against Charles Le Clerc?

How do you feel Doohan performed today apart from what’s reflected in just the race results? Admittedly qualifying last and finished next to last is not ideal. Do you think his seat is already at risk given Flavio may not think he’s worth putting in the seat?

I seem to remember some within RedBull saying that there were new performance clauses in Perez’s contract extension after Monaco.
If the team haven’t gotten themselves a clause that at least reduces the payout necessary to move Checo aside, could this be viewed as potentially the silliest signing of all time?

Was that debris just ignored today and they got lucky no one got a puncture going through that chicane? Or was it just not a problem today?

And also how much of this is/isn’t down to Binotto’s contribution and changes he’s made since being brought in?

I agree, he’s gotten less for far worse imo

What's your views on the penalties from the race today? Felt like they were dishing them out like sweeties early doors! Myself, Wouldn't disagree with any of the pens given, it's the amount that I'm not sure on.
Max getting penalty points seems a tad harsh for a sloppy T1 incident.

Gasly has definitely stepped it up recently but he has done this before during his RB stint, where he also came out on top top of the midfield a lot and was especially impressive in quali. It almost feels like a return to form, after not really feeling comfortable with his teams for a couple of seasons.

Because Will Buxton wants the fame of having "called it". He frequently oversimplifies things and argues it convincingly as though he knows something that others don't.... He also said Ferrari will rue the Spanish upgrade they put on the car. Imagine that, an F1 pundit telling the whole world that the whole Ferrari team will be kicking themselves that they made a mistake! As if it's that easy and that simple. He really doesn't know what he's talking about... Problem is he has the ears and eyes of the world on him... Sorry to butt in, rant over!

Gasly has been brilliant in recent races and seems to have taken a step overall as a driver this season. Do you think he deserves another shot at a front running team and if so, where?

Are these 10 seconds penalties becoming excessive, feels like drivers are getting them for being caught up incidents and then being slapped with a race ruining 10 second penalty

Considering after Miami Perez was 2nd in the championship on 103 points, just how bad has it been to average 3 points a weekend for the rest of the season?
Also how bad does Red Bull giving him a contract look now, it has cost them at least 1 position in the constructors' championship and the prize money with that and more money to terminate his contract if they do.

Was that Norris's best drive in F1? He seemed utterly and boringly dominant today and totally in control.
This bodes well for next year.

I’m starting to wonder how Max will handle a titles fight next year with potential 4-5 drivers . Over the last half of the year we have seen more mistakes and incidents and it was just Norris he had to compete with. If other drivers start getting in the mix I worry we will see alot of incidents and max angry radio messages

What has led to the midfield getting so much closer to the front in qualifying, with Alpine and Haas both looking very competitive? Is it due to the end of the season development or new vs fresh soft tyres?

I hate to see a piddling 5-10 second penalty assessed when a driver ruins another’s race and is deemed at fault. We saw it today, but in an extreme case we’ve seen all-time champs ice WDC’s with strategic crash-outs. Is there ever any discussion of a rules change whereby drivers are assessed actual championship point penalties to discourage the practice of the strategic crash-out or even the reckless overtake?

Congratulations to McLaren after too many years. Is Hamilton at a point where his brilliance only comes to the fore when he has a tangible target and does this (as well as 2021) explain his inconsistency since 2022 (the 2022 car was a dog!)?

What do you think about max’s reaction after he served his 10second penalty for the collision he caused with Piastri. This doesn’t feel like the response of a multiple world champion!
We all saw the incident coming as Max now expects everyone to back out of any challenge with him

There’s a significant monetary bonus for each position a team goes up in the constructor’s championship… are teams allowed to use the prize money to pay a bonus to their employees? If they do, it seems it would circumvent the cost cap.

Let’s assume we have the same race director for Next season (unrealistic, I know…). Are we going to see harsher penalties in general next year? We’ve seen in Yas Marina a clear statement of intent, contact is a penalty and 10 seconds at that, too. I prefer this method of no-nonsense stewarding, but is this the precedent for next season, or just inconsistent stewarding based on other penalties this season?

How does the Russell/Verstappen row impact Toto Wolff’s courting of Max? Is it non-coincidental that Wolff aimed his public words more towards Horner than Max?
Bonus fun one - Now the season is over - can we hear what tune would have played if Bottas HAD scored points?

Why is Lewis getting a send off like he's leaving the sport? He's just changing teams, it feels unnecessary and very main character syndrome.

Why did Russell struggle so much with overtaking Gasly at the start while Verstappen and Hamilton passed him easily later on? Seems like Russell and the Ferraris struggle so much more with their tires than Norris and Hamilton. Also Magnussen being on the softs until the end presumably is crazy.

Martin Brundle said Max should have factored the constructors championship situation into his calculation when lunging at Piastri into T1 L1. Is this just old school thinking (as discussed on the Jerez 97 revisited episode) or is there a place for that kind of mindset in 2024?

Less a question, more a statement.
Surely we shouldn't be harshly penalising Turn 1/Lap 1 Incidents. Won't this prevent any sort of racing as drivers will be too cautious at the start of a race and will cause single file processional races when they are able to actually to get past each other.

I am a fan of controversy and a bit of spice in motorsport. Would be boring without it. However.... even as someone with great respect for Max, does it bring the penalty point system into question when you consider K.Mag missed a race this season on a ban but Max has not even been close. Possibly recency bias, but feels to me like Max has been involved in far more of the drama.

With how quick Kick/Sauber turned around performance the last two races, and belief that Hulkenberg can drive it just as well as Valteri it not better, can we really expect a big jump in performance next year from them? Do they have the team in place to turn it around?

With Sauber's performance in the last two races and its competitiveness, what's your thoughts on Carlos Sainz's move to Williams now, especially with their respective performance being slightly poorer in Qatar and Abu Dhabi? I am really concerned now that it seems that Carlos may be in an even more uncompetitive car for 2025 and 2026 in Wiliams as they seem to have challenges with developing a car well through a competitive year, or is that a harsh assessment given their budget cap challenges and the intent to build a better all-round car this year?

Given that Haas is looking to improve from P7 in the Constructors', despite the "we'll just be P10" attitude from the beginning of the season, what are the opinions in the Paddock on Komatsu's running of the team, compared to Steiner's (inclusive of the team/TP relationship with the owner)?

Q: Why was the Russell/Lawson situation in Q1 not a penalty?
My personal thoughts: Generally speaking I always find it a bit weird how lenient the stewards when it comes to drivers getting in the way of others in quali while going super slow in the last few corners. Going slow to prepare for the push lap might be the best course of action for a driver, but it you end up blocking someone in the process, even if it's partially due to bad luck, isn't that still your fault and it should be punished? You could've easily avoided this situation after all by going at a reasonable speed on your warm-up lap instead of almost coming to a halt in a cometitive session just to give yourself some extra clean air.

When did Ferrari find out about Leclerc's battery problem? If it was before FP1, what stops them from changing it before - logistics, FIA rules on limited parts, something else?
